WikiLeaks G.I. Files Press Conference, 27 Feb 2012, Frontline Press Club, London, U. K.

The complete press conference with a synopsis by Wikileaks leader Julian Assange of the Stratfor information dump by the Anonymous cyber-activist movement of over 5 million emails are discussed.  The information is being analyzed by Wikileaks along with over two dozen news organizations who are involved in the study and release of the vast archive.

Author and journalist Barrett Brown offers this description and analysis from Paste Bin:

"In the wake of the recent operation by which Stratfor's servers were compromised, much of the media has focused on the fact that some participants in the attack chose to use obtained customer credit card numbers to make donations to charitable causes. Although this aspect of the operation is indeed newsworthy, and, like all things, should be scrutinized and criticized as necessary, the original purpose and ultimate consequence of the operation has been largely ignored.

Stratfor was not breached in order to obtain customer credit card numbers, which the hackers in question could not have expected to be as easily obtainable as they were. Rather, the operation was pursued in order to obtain the 2.7 million e-mails that exist on the firm's servers. This wealth of data includes correspondence with untold thousands of contacts who have spoken to Stratfor's employees off the record over more than a decade. Many of those contacts work for major corporations within the intelligence and military contracting sectors, government agencies, and other institutions for which Anonymous and associated parties have developed an interest since February of 2011, when another hack against the intelligence contractor/security firm HBGary revealed, among many other things, a widespread conspiracy by the Justice Department, Bank of America, and other parties to attack and discredit Wikileaks and other activist groups. Since that time, many of us in the movement have dedicated our lives to investigating this state-corporate alliance against the free information movement. For this and other reasons, operations have been conducted against Booz Allen Hamilton, Unveillance, NATO, and other relevant institutions. The bulk of what we've uncovered thus far may be reviewed at a wiki maintained by my group Project PM, echelon2.org.

Although Stratfor is not necessarily among the parties at fault in the larger movement against transparency and individual liberty, it has long been a "subject of interest" in our necessary investigation. The e-mails obtained before Christmas Day will vastly improve our ability to continue that investigation and thereby bring to light other instances of corruption, crime, and deception on the part of certain powerful actors based in the U.S. and elsewhere. Unlike the various agents of the U.S. Government, the hacking team that obtained this information did not break down the doors of the target, point guns at children, and shoot down any dogs that might have been present; Anonymous does not resort to SWAT tactics, and this is simply one of many attributes that separate the movement from the governments that have sought to end our campaign and imprison our participants. Of course, such points as these will not prevent our movement from being subjected to harsher scrutiny than is given to those governments which are largely forgiven their more intrusive tactics by virtue of their status as de facto holders of power in a world that has long been governed in accordance with the dictate that might makes right.

Incidentally, many of us are more than happy to proceed according to that amoral dictate if we find it to be necessary. And, increasingly, we have found it to be so."

Robert Parry: Santorum 'Throws Up' on JFK/Obama @ Consortium News

Exclusive: Rich Santorum says he almost threw up reading John Kennedy’s 1960 speech on religious tolerance, and the GOP presidential hopeful sees sinister intent in President Obama’s plea that young Americans seek higher education. So, what would a Santorum America be like, asks Robert Parry.

Too Much Online Newsweekly, 27 Feb. 2011

We’re all still feeling, four years later, the 2008 Wall Street crash that tanked the financial industry — and our economy. But an even deadlier 2008 crash in Manhattan has largely faded into obscurity. Last week, in a New York courtroom, memories of that forgotten tragedy edged back onto the public stage.
This particular stage would be the manslaughter trial of multi-millionaire James Lomma, the owner of New York’s largest construction crane company. In May 2008, one of Lomma’s giant cranes crashed down on New York’s Upper East Side, killing two construction workers.
These two men died, an assistant D.A. told a packed courtroom Tuesday, “because a wealthy man” cared about “the bottom line and nothing else.” The crashed crane, the D.A. noted, had suffered damage the year before. Lomma, the prosecutor charged, had refused to wait for a qualified repair firm. He cut corners instead to rush the damaged crane back into service.
Lomma may beat this rap. Cases against big cheeses remain devilishly difficult to bring to trial, let alone win, one reason why no high-finance chief exec has yet gone to jail for the frauds behind Wall Street’s epic 2008 crash. But you don’t have to be a Wall Streeter in America today to dodge accountability. We have more, on that score, in this week’s Too Much.

Wikileaks Begins Publishing 5 Million Emails from STRATFOR @ Paste Bin

  1.
... The material shows how a private intelligence agency works, and how they target individuals for their corporate and government clients. For example, Stratfor monitored and analysed the online activities of Bhopal activists, including the "Yes Men", for the US chemical giant Dow Chemical. The activists seek redress for the 1984 Dow Chemical/Union Carbide gas disaster in Bhopal, India. The disaster led to thousands of deaths, injuries in more than half a million people, and lasting environmental damage.
  2.
  3. Stratfor has realised that its routine use of secret cash bribes to get information from insiders is risky. In August 2011, Stratfor CEO George Friedman confidentially told his employees: "We are retaining a law firm to create a policy for Stratfor on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. I don't plan to do the perp walk and I don't want anyone here doing it either."
  4.
  5. Stratfor's use of insiders for intelligence soon turned into a money-making scheme of questionable legality. The emails show that in 2009 then-Goldman Sachs Managing Director Shea Morenz and  Stratfor CEO George Friedman hatched an idea to "utilise the intelligence" it was pulling in from its insider network to start up a captive strategic investment fund. CEO George Friedman explained in a confidential August 2011 document, marked DO NOT SHARE OR DISCUSS: "What StratCap will do is use our Stratfor's intelligence and analysis to trade in a range of geopolitical  instruments, particularly government bonds, currencies and the like".  The emails show that in 2011 Goldman Sach's Morenz invested "substantially" more than $4million and joined Stratfor's board of directors. Throughout 2011, a complex offshore share structure extending as far as South Africa was erected, designed to make StratCap appear to be legally independent. But, confidentially, Friedman told StratFor staff: "Do not think of StratCap as an outside organisation. It will be integral... It will be useful to you if, for the sake of convenience, you think of it as another aspect of Stratfor and Shea as another executive in Stratfor... we are already working on mock portfolios and trades". StratCap is due to launch in 2012.
  6.
  7. The Stratfor emails reveal a company that cultivates close ties with US government agencies and employs former US government staff. It is preparing the 3-year Forecast for the Commandant of the US Marine Corps, and it trains US marines and "other government intelligence agencies" in "becoming government Stratfors". Stratfor's Vice-President for Intelligence, Fred Burton, was formerly a special agent with the US State Department's Diplomatic Security Service and was their Deputy Chief of the counterterrorism division. Despite the governmental ties, Stratfor and similar companies operate in complete secrecy with no political oversight or accountability.  Stratfor claims that it operates "without ideology, agenda or national bias", yet the emails reveal private intelligence staff who align themselves closely with US government policies and channel tips to the Mossad – including through an information mule in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Yossi Melman, who conspired with Guardian journalist David Leigh to secretly, and in violation of WikiLeaks' contract with the Guardian, move WikiLeaks US diplomatic cables to Israel. ...

Ellen Brown: How Greece Could Take Down Wall Street @ Common Dreams

I wouldn't dream of this happening to 350 million Americans, but what do I know.
In an article titled “Still No End to ‘Too Big to Fail,’” William Greider wrote in The Nation on February 15th:
Financial market cynics have assumed all along that Dodd-Frank did not end "too big to fail" but instead created a charmed circle of protected banks labeled "systemically important" that will not be allowed to fail, no matter how badly they behave.
That may be, but there is one bit of bad behavior that Uncle Sam himself does not have the funds to underwrite: the $32 trillion market in credit default swaps (CDS).  Thirty-two trillion dollars is more than twice the U.S. GDP and more than twice the national debt.
CDS are a form of derivative taken out by investors as insurance against default. ... "

Press Release: KS House Bill 2260 Clears Committee, Gay Bashing Rampant @ Kansas Equality Coalition

[Excerpt] " ... At a legislative forum in Hutchinson on Saturday, Pauls launched a vicious attack on Kansas’ LGBT community. Saying local laws shouldn’t protect “gays and crossdressers,” she declared her support for HB2260, the pending bill that will nullify all local laws banning discrimination against LGBT Kansans.

Check out her rambling, anti-LGBT remarks here: http://youtu.be/njB0QFSbaXg

This isn’t the first time Jan Pauls has attacked the LGBT community. In her 20 years as a state representative, Pauls has targeted our community with a series of bigoted legislative attacks:

--- In 1996, she drafted and backed the Kansas “Defense of Marriage Act,” which banned recognition of same-sex marriages performed in other states;

--- In 2005, she drafted and backed the constitutional amendment permanently banning marriage equality in the state of Kansas;

--- Last year, she blocked the repeal of the unconstitutional law criminalizing gay and lesbian relationships;

--- In every legislative session since 2007, Jan Pauls has opposed our efforts to add LGBT discrimination protections to Kansas law. She testifies against us in every hearing, and has often referred to LGBT Kansans in very insulting and demeaning terms.

--- Year after year, she has allied herself with the most anti-LGBT extremists in the Kansas legislature, and has used that alliance to make sure we are denied the same rights everyone else enjoys.

It’s time for Jan Pauls to be held accountable for her out-of-touch views. It’s time for Jan Pauls to be removed from any position of authority, and voted out of office. ... " Read more at Kansas Equality Coalition.

Glenn Greenwald: Billionaire Romney donor uses threats to silence critics @ Salon

[Excerpt]  " ...  On February 10 — four days after the Mother Jones piece was first posted – Forbes published an article entitled “Meet the Men Behind Romney: Four Contributors Mitt Probably Doesn’t Want You to Know About”. Written by Elliot Suthers – a Forbes blogger and GOP operative (he worked on the campaigns of McCain 2008 and Saxby Chambliss) — the article examined what it called (based on this 2004 Forbes profile and complaints to government agencies) Melaleuca’s “somewhat shady business model,” and also referenced the “number of anti-gay causes” which VanderSloot has funded.
But again, if you click on the link to the Forbes site where the article originally appeared — here – you will be greeted by a message error; the only evidence of the article is found from other sites that linked to it. Forbes, too, received complaints from Melaleuca lawyers which caused them to remove the article entirely. The very day the article was published, Melaleuca’s General Counsel, Ryan Nelson, sent an email to Suthers (as well as to various Forbes editors) accusing him of making “defamatory statements” and directing: “We expect immediate action here and no more stonewalling from you.” It warned them that “this is serious business” that “will escalate this quickly if you do not help us resolve these issues immediately.”
These national magazines are encountering what small local journalists and bloggers in Idaho have confronted for years. The website 43rdStateBlues is written by a collection of Idaho Democrats and they all write under pseudonyms. In 2007, one of them (“TomPaine”) wrote a critical post about VanderSloot, and then quickly received a letter from Melaleuca’s in-house General Counsel at the time, Ken Sheppard, threatening a lawsuit if the post was not removed within 24 hours. The website complied by removing the post, but wanted their readers to know why the post was removed. So another poster (“d2″) explained that they had received a letter from Melaleuca’s lawyers demanding its removal, and then posted the lawyer’s letter.

Melaleuca responded by obtaining an after-the-fact copyright certificate for that lawyer’s letter, then demanded that the hosting company remove the letter from the website on the ground that it constituted copyright infringement (the hosting company promptly complied), and Melaleuca then sued the website for copyright infringement for having published the now-copyrighted lawyer’s letter without their consent. Worse, as part of that lawsuit, Melaleuca issued a subpoena demanding the identities of both anonymous bloggers — the one who wrote the original post about VanderSloot (“TomPaine”) and the one who posted the lawyer’s letter (“d2″). A district court in Idaho ordered the website to disclose to Melaleuca the identity of the blogger who posted the lawyer’s cease-and-desist letter, but refused to compel disclosure of the identity of the other blogger. It’s almost impossible to imagine any more thuggish attempts to intimidate people from speaking out and criticizing VanderSloot: this was a tiny website being sued for trivial offenses in federal court by a company owned by a billionaire. ... Reporters Without Borders is an international organization based in Paris, France whose mission is to defend freedom of the press, journalists and netizens all around the world. They put out an annual Press Freedom Index, ranking press freedom in countries around the world.  In their latest index, the United States has fallen from a rather pathetic 20th to a dismal 47th.  On the Reporters Without Borders website, they write that the "United States (47th) also owed its fall of 27 places to the many arrests of journalists covering Occupy Wall Street protests."

Josh Stearns, Program Manager with Free Press,  has been closely following the arrests of journalists, and he'll talk about it on Tell Somebody on Tuesday February 21 at 6pm on 90.1 FM KKFI

Paul Soutar: Occupy Koch Town protesters ignore facts @ Wichita Liberty

Ever the reverence and loyalty, one will see in duty to the Master.
Bob Weeks and Kansas Watchdog team up on this one.  [Excerpt] " ...  A map of the existing Keystone and planned Keystone XL pipelines shows that Koch’s two refineries in the 48 contiguous states at Pine Bend, Minn., and Corpus Christi, Texas, are not on or near the pipeline routes. Koch also has a refinery in North Pole, Alaska.
Koch does have substantial interests in Canadian oil though, including the thick oil sands mined in Alberta. Those interests are precisely why Flint Hills Resources Canada requested intervener status in the pipeline approval process in 2009.
Flint Hills’ application to Canada’s National Energy Board for intervener status said, “Flint Hills Resources Canada LP is among Canada’s largest crude oil purchasers, shippers and exporters, coordinating supply for its refinery in Pine Bend, Minnesota. Consequently, Flint Hills has a direct and substantial interest in the application.”
Critics have claimed that statement is a smoking gun proving Koch is a party to the pipeline or will benefit from its construction. ... "

Over 100 Attempt to Occupy Governor's Office

Please Circulate this You Tube Video: "Kansans United v. A.L.E.C. Legislators"

Updated, 16 Feb 2012, 1402hr.  Andy Marso at Topeka Capital Journal reports SoS "Kobach says he'll turn over calenders" - let the digging begin.

Link to coverage at the Topeka Capital Journal on-line below:

Marching from Kobach HQ to Gov. Sam's dugout.

Protesters Deliver Anti-ALEC Message -- Chants of "Si se puede" — "Yes it can be done" — rang out through the Statehouse after a crowd of more than 100 people attempted to deliver a message to Gov. Sam Brownback following a rally Wednesday. Three statewide coalitions made up of dozens of organizations converged on Topeka for the rally, which appeared to draw about 300 people. It included advocates for workers, women, education, the disabled and elderly who denounced cuts in state aid and the influence of the American Legislative Exchange Council.

Earlier that morning at the statehouse a large number assembled in front of where Secretary of State Kris Kobach holds office to demonstrate their opposition to the immigration and election laws he has initiated both across the country and here in Kansas.

Mr. Kobach's reported response seemed to be a bit "anxious" (from the Cap-Journal headline) and reminiscent of the white settlers before Kansas became a state in the federal Union.

Bum Rings Rant to Governor, Arrested

Stranger with I. E. D. Bombs & Florida Truck, Released?

Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 was a busy day around the statehouse building district with a homeless man calling in an alleged threat to Gov. Sam Brownback from his temporary room at the local Motel 6.

The man later identified as, Stephen Joseph Thibodeau III, 37, no permanent address, remained Thursday morning in the Shawnee County Jail.  According to a related post at the Topeka Capital Journal by Phil Anderson:

" ... Thibodeau was apprehended by Kansas Highway Patrol troopers, who tracked him down to the motel by way of caller ID.

Thibodeau was questioned, then arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Jail in connection with harassment by telecommunications device and transmitting obscene comments.

Capitol Police Officer Patrick Saleh said the man went on a “rant” that was considered threatening to the governor’s office. It was unknown whether specific threats had been made against the governor. ... "
Thibodeau is held on $25,000 bond.

Strange Happenings in the Capital  Tunnel - Guy Fawkes Visits Topeka Koch Sock Puppets?

An "unrelated" incident prior to the statehouse protest had a vehicle with an unidentified (at posting time) owner containing several "improvised explosive devices" and an empty gun holster.

The unidentified man was attending a "scheduled meeting" within the statehouse complex according to the Topeka Capital Journal.

Florida photo-id led to his arrest in statehouse tunnel.

Read this one,  WTF?

15 Feb. 2012 Protest assembles on the south steps of the Topeka statehouse.
Updated, 16 Feb. 2012 12:34hr., by Capital-Journal Phil Anderson & Corey Jones: The unidentified man with the explosives has been released to take custody of his truck with Florida plates after his Topeka 'residence' was searched by ATF and Topeka police.

The bum who cussed out Gov. Brownback is still in the Shawnee County jail.

Again, WTF?

Brownback is lauding capital police for "apprehending" the unidentified man in a tunnel despite the conflicting reports.  Andy Marso reports today that Brownback held a press conference and said:
“I thought the Capitol Police did an excellent job in investigating and being on top of matters," Brownback said during a media briefing Thursday. "I really commend them on the quality of their work, their quickness and effectiveness in the situation.”

Dearly Devoted Dexter

I teach creative writing in a maximum security prison in Philadelphia. During the week I scour two thrift shops for 35-cent paperbacks that I haul in to stock a small lending library I created for inmates. Amazingly, the prison had no library.

In the process of collecting used books, I’ve surveyed the crime, mystery and noir genre of popular fiction. I collect some books for myself and have read many in part or end to end. The range of quality in such a genre runs from garbage to genius.

I’m a Vietnam veteran and a veteran anti-war activist who follows the US war news closely. The psychological and mythic forces of Eros and Thanatos (Death) interest me and how they play out in popular culture. Freud in Civilization and Its Discontents writes about “the struggle between Eros and Death, between the instinct of life and the instinct of destruction.” Eros is the force that brings humans together and Thanatos is the force that drives us apart. “This struggle is what all life essentially consists of,” Freud writes. Chris Hedges also writes of this split in his great book War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning.
The other day I picked up Jeff Lindsay’s second book in the Dexter series -- Dearly Devoted Dexter -- about a Miami police department forensic expert by day and psychopathic killer by night. Lindsay's Dexter novels have spun off into a popular Showtime TV series. The Miami Herald called the book about a lovable serial killer “A macabre work of art.”

Personally, I wouldn’t pay the full cover price for this book. Still, Lindsay is a fine prose writer whose characters are well drawn and set within a fast-paced plot that ping-pongs from the sweet, personal and mundane to the truly horrific blood feast. Dexter as first-person narrator speaks in a tone of light, ironic gallows humor with the reader assumed as a friendly confidant. His day job is as a blood-spatter expert with the Miami-Dade Police Homicide Department...

Tomgram: Noam Chomsky, Hegemony and Its Dilemmas @ TomDispatch

Back in May 2007, I stumbled across online sketches at the website of a Kansas architectural firm hired to build a monster U.S. embassy-cum-citadel-cum-Greater-Middle-Eastern command center on 104 acres in the middle of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.  They offered an artist’s impressions of what the place would look like -- a giant self-sufficient compound both prosaic (think malls or housing projects) and opulent (a giant pool, tennis courts, a recreation center).
Struck by the fact that the U.S. government was intent on building the largest embassy ever in the planet’s oil heartlands, I wrote a piece, “The Mother Ship Lands in Iraq” about those plans and offered a little tour of the project via those crude drawings.  From TomDispatch, they then began to run around the Internet and soon a panicky State Department had declared a “security breach” and forced the firm to pull the sketches off its website.
Now, more than five years later, we have the first public photos of the embassy -- a pool, basketball court, tennis courts, and food court to die for -- just as the news has arrived that the vast boondoggle of a place, built for three-quarters of a billion of your tax dollars, with a $6 billion State Department budget this year and its own mercenary air force, is about to get its staff of 16,000 slashed.  In a Washington Post piece on the subject, Senator Patrick Leahy is quoted as saying: “I’ve been in embassies all over the world, and you come to this place and you’re like: ‘Whoa. Wow.’ All of a sudden you’ve got something so completely out of scale to anything, you have to wonder, what were they thinking when they first built it?”
The answer is: in 2004, when planning for this white elephant of embassies first began, the Bush administration was still dreaming of a Washington-enforced Pax Americana in the Greater Middle East and saw it as its western command post.  Now, of course, the vast American mega-bases in Iraq with their multiple bus routes, giant PXes, Pizza Huts, Cinnabons, and Burger Kings, where American troops were to be garrisoned on the “Korean model” for decades to come, are so many ghost towns, fading American ziggurats in Mesopotamia.  Similarly, those embassy photos seem like snapshots from Pompeii just as the ash was beginning to fall.  Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, the news is similarly dismal with drawdowns and withdrawals suddenly the order of the day.  Something’s changing.  It feels tectonic.  Certainly, we’re receiving another set of signs that American imperial plans on the Eurasian mainland have crashed and burned and that the U.S. is now regrouping and heading “offshore.”
What a moment then for Noam Chomsky to weigh in on the subject of American decline.  (His earlier TomDispatch post “Who Owns the World?” might be considered a companion piece to this one.)  For him, a TomDispatch first: a two-day, back-to-back two-parter on imperial hegemony and its discontents. (To catch Timothy MacBain’s latest Tomcast audio interview in which Chomsky offers an anatomy of American defeats in the Greater Middle East, click here, or download it to your iPod here.) Tom

Roxana Wegeman: Workers sue over wages at Ark City slaughterhouse @ Wichita Eagle

Listen for Koch Libertarians to claim this was a violation of their vague notion of "economic freedom" and of course the capitalist's notion of "liberty."  [Excerpt" ... The lawsuit claims Creekstone Farms has a practice of paying hourly meat processing employees based on a principle of so-called gang time. It contends workers are typically paid only for the time that their assigned production lines are running, along with 10 minutes a day to put on their protective clothing. The suit also contends the company failed to pay overtime. ..." Read more at The Eagle.

RFK Today! Kansans United in Voice & Spirit!

Glenn Beck and his cronies raved yesterday in none too subtle terms about First Lady Michelle Obama's ass size, and on the same day Rush Limbaugh rails against federal mandated health insurance guarantees for employees reproductive choices in religious institutions.

And, as if that wasn't enough, GOP presidential campaigner Mitt Romney now describes himself as a "severe conservative." As if this media frenzy wasn't severe enough already.

It's been non-stop this week from the "conservative" theocratic blow horns in our state government from Topeka, too.

I wondered while observing all this in the media, "How much social poison can on-air 'conservatives' inject into Kansans brains?"

Is there anybody out here in Kansas who can see through all this?

Listen to one of the first groups to spark a grass root response from Kansans to this mess.

George Kenny Interviews Ambassador Peter Jenkins @ Electric Politics

Dear Michael,

If, out of fear of what Iran might do with its nuclear program, the U.S. and Israel attack Iran, the Iranians then would have an iron clad case that they were only doing things that they are perfectly well allowed to do under the letter of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. In other words, such a war would not be unambiguously legal. Far from it. But you don't have to accept my analysis. That's what Ambassador Peter Jenkins says, and he should know because from 2001 to 2006 he was Britain's Permanent Representative to the IAEA in Vienna. If anyone currently outside government understands the technical complications regarding nonproliferation, and the policy, he does. Moreover, Peter says, back in 2005 the Iranians made us an offer that we should have accepted: in exchange for much more intrusive IAEA safeguards we would agree that Iran can continue to enrich uranium -- again, under the letter of the NPT. Peter remembers thinking at the time that this was a pretty good offer but it wasn't until after he retired from the British Foreign Service that he changed his mind about Iran, began exploring the idea's feasibility, and became a proponent. Which, I should add, took a great deal of courage. In any case, Peter is absolutely right. A compromise within the letter of the NPT is infinitely preferable to going to war!

This one is important. I hope you like it and, if you do, please forward the link.

Best,

g.

Douglas A. Berg: Why We Shouldn't Be Surprised Susan G. Komen for the Cure Is Anti-Women @ This Can't Be Happening!

Nancy Goodman Brinker, a pioneer of “cause marketing”, founded Susan G. Komen For the Cure in 1982, reportedly as the fulfillment of a deathbed promise made to her sister, a victim of breast cancer. In 1994, Brinker founded In Your Corner, Inc., a for-profit company that markets health products and information. In 1998, Brinker sold In Your Corner to AstraZeneca, the third largest pesticide manufacturer in the world, primarily through Syngenta, a giant global agribusiness company it owns jointly with Novartis.

AstraZeneca has had close ties to Brinker for many years. It gave $97,000 to Komen and its affiliates in the first 6 months of 2008 alone, and it has been a big presence at Komen’s Race for the Cure. AstraZeneca is also one of the largest contributors to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The problem here is that pesticides cause breast cancer.

AstraZeneca solves the problem by no longer advertising itself as a pesticide manufacturer.  It is a “life-sciences” company. Ta da! Problem solved! Well, they still manufacture more pesticides than ever (substances that congregate in the sexual glands of mammals causing cancers, birth defects, etc., etc.,) but “life sciences” sounds so reassuring, yes?

Susan G. Komen has created a lengthy list of risk factors for breast cancer.  Nowhere in this list can you find exposure to toxins, probably the greatest risk factor of all.

Hey Nancy! Didn’t your sister ask you to cure breast cancer? Was her dying wish, “Please forgive them for killing me, pay yourself half a million dollars a year – and oh by the way please protect those poor pesticide manufacturers. They know not what they do.”

It gets worse. You’ve heard the famous slogan “The best prevention is early detection.” Think about it: If you get breast cancer, you didn’t see the doctor soon enough. Your fault. Next case.

No wonder AstraZeneca gives handsomely. The focus of Komen and pharmaceutical research is entirely on screening and treatment, not on prevention...
