Information Clearing House: Russian Triumph as Saakashvili's Gamble Fails
The Empire of the Wild West is over and all the media hoopla from a White House Rose Garden, or ships hauling food will not matter one bit - Bush, the cowboy afraid of horses, cannot do one damn thing, except engage in a mad bombing of Iran. Here a writer I always enjoy reading, Gwynne Dyer from New Zealand writes: "The three-day war in South Ossetia is settled, and the Georgians have lost. There may be some more shooting yet, but it is now clear that Georgia will never regain control of the rebel territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.Also that President Mikhail Saakashvili has handed Russia a major victory, and that Georgia's hopes of joining NATO are gone.
