Electric Politics: "Dr. Timothy Mitchell 'Carbon Democracy'"

Dear Michael,

Here's one of the ones that surprise me by putting things in a new light. Dr. Timothy Mitchell has written a splendid book, Carbon Democracy, tracing the interrelationship of our fuels of choice -- coal, oil -- and the march of democracy. His bottom line is that as we reach the end of the era of cheap carbon fuel we can't yet predict how that will affect democratic practices but we can pretty sure that it will. His juxtaposition of coal (a catalyst for democratic progress) and oil (a brake on those gains) is original and helpful.

As always, thanks very much for listening and I hope you find the podcast interesting.

Best,

g.

PS It's that time of year again for the Podcast Awards Competition. Please take a minute and
nominate the Electric Politics Podcast in the political/news category -- it would be great once again, for the sixth year in a row, to be selected as a finalist in the category!
