Guy Evans: "Episode #55 Financial Terrorism: Cyprus" @ Smells Like Human Spirit
Hello,
The new episode (No. 55) of the Smells Like Human Spirit Podcast has been published:
One of the most important ingredients needed for democracy to function is belief. The belief in freedom, the belief in hard work, and the belief in justice are key cultural values that are reinforced through the usage of symbols, mythology, and what was called in more honest times, propaganda. The belief in justice specifically points to the inherent desire common to all human beings for a level playing field. As children, we react with outrage if someone is afforded an unfair advantage, but somehow, in adulthood it becomes a tired cliché that ‘life just isn’t fair’.
Although we’ve inherited a culture whereby your achievements are never quite good enough, born out of a capitalist mindset that stops at nothing, not even the future of the planet, in the pursuit of ever-increasing success, most people want a simple existence. We are often told that the general public cause their own problems, the scandalous blame heaped on middle-class families following the recession instantly comes to mind, but there’s quite clearly a fairly tyrannical group of people that exempt themselves from their own laws and society’s norms, all the while demonstrating an incredible lack of empathy for anyone but themselves. We could call these people the criminal class.
In this episode of the Smells Like Human Spirit Podcast, Guy Evans examines the latest victims of the criminal class, the people of Cyprus. Spread the word, enjoy, and peace!
