"Tell Congress to Preserve Emergency Care for Women and Vote No on Pitts" @ PRCH

The House of Representatives will vote this week on a far-reaching bill that would increase the already onerous restrictions on insurance coverage for abortion. This measure would also allow any medical professional or institution to refuse emergency abortion care to a patient, no matter how dire her condition. Email your representative to protect women and vote no on the Pitts bill!

Today, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act requires hospitals to provide life-saving treatment, including abortion, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. The Pitts bill would override that vital law, endangering women who need abortions to preserve their health or their lives.

I think of my patient Margaret who was pregnant with twins when her water broke five months early. She arrived at my hospital bleeding and with an infection. No treatment could have saved the twins. Margaret needed an abortion immediately to prevent serious infection, hemorrhage, shock, and death. We provided the abortion, and Margaret survived. Under the Pitts bill, hospitals could refuse to help women like Margaret, putting their lives at risk.

We can’t let the Pitts bill become law. Help us stop this cruel legislation today. Email your member of Congress now.

Sincerely,
