Jan Biles: "State Hires Koch-Related Defense Team in Planned Parenthood Lawsuit" @ Topeka Capital Journal

The state of Kansas has hired an outside law firm to defend the state against a lawsuit file by Planned Parenthood. The law firm, Foulston Siefkin, of Wichita, also represents David and Charles Koch, conservative billionaire brothers who have donated significant funds to the Republican Party.

Defendants in the lawsuit are Gov. Sam Brownback and Robert Moser, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The Kansas attorney general’s office typically defends state officials named in lawsuits.

Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit against the state in June over a budget provision that blocks $334,000 from going to the health provider. Republican lawmakers said they supported the action as a way to prevent taxpayer-funded abortions. ...
