George Kenney's Interview: "The U.S. Constitution with Dr. George Van Cleve"

... The system has three critical flaws: The Senate, the Electoral College, and the states.

The Senate is absurdly skewed toward small population states. California, for instance, has 68 times more people than Wyoming but each has exactly two Senators. Adding them up, representatives from a miniscule fraction of the country have the power to arbitrarily block legislation and, conversely, those unrepresentative Senators have the power to foist unpopular laws on everyone. Little that's necessary or useful gets done. Even when extraordinary circumstances produce exemplary legislation, like FDR's New Deal or Johnson's Great Society, a remorseless current tugs away at the gains. On a separate but related front, the Senate is also responsible for our corporation-friendly Supreme Court and subordinate Federal judiciary, since it must confirm them. ...
