[Excerpt] ... The plant produced ethanol for a single month. Gateway Ethanol filed for bankruptcy in October of 2008. The total failure of the Gateway Ethanol venture left a lot of folk that had invested in the project- including the city of Pratt, which took out a bond to pay for a new water main to serve the plant- high and dry to the tune of somewhere between $50 and $100 million. As of about a month ago, the whole mess is still tied up in the courts, with debtors fighting amongst themselves, all trying to draw their blood back out of this turnip. ... Read more.
