Newspapers are folding all over--the SF Chronicle, the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, the San Jose Mercury, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, even the LA Times are either gone or going fast. Some may say good riddance. They have ceased to provide real news. But the new model of journalism without strings--sites like this one, or Counterpunch, Common Dreams and Buzzflash--needs reader support. According to the statistics, this site, for example, according to Quantcast, has about 26,000 unique regular readers who check it each month. If even half of you readers would use the Paypal button on the support page or would write a check and send $5 just once a year, I could devote full time to this effort instead of squeezing it into my free time. That's a journalism model that could work, but only if the readers make it happen.
