Beyond 'snitchjacketing' comrades : Houston Indymedia

Unlike previous 'outings' of secret police informants floating around the mercurial indymedia sites this one is legit. Note the use of provocateur tactics encouraging conspiracies of illegal violent tactics. It's an ancient profession, like prostitution, but more difficult to identify among the paranoid fringe. I consider personal, neighborhood and village autonomy more important than promoting obscure calls for "action" and "anarchy." Promoting a widespread hatred of cops is stupid and just makes more enemies among the powerful. Better for all to persuade mutiny and have them "turn the guns around" and "tear the class system down." At this time, unfortunately, the "left" and the "right" is too immature for this kind of assymetrical thinking and action. Read this post from Houston Indymedia and try to keep a critical mind. I'm closing down the news ticker here for the weekend, my birthday makes me tired. Listen to Radio Free Kansas over the weekend and have some fun.

I don't hate all cops, Michael...just the ones I know exist. Happy Birthday Brother!

Truly though, it is less the person and more the position that is to be despised. you are right, people do have the ability to change, but the position will remain the same, until we render it powerless. Being that fear is a large amount of the illusion of power, we must shed our fear. This is quite hard to do as an individual, but, if a community of people stand up, we are no longer afraid, and all they have then is not power, but force and control. those will fall short, one day.

A big (atheist) amen to that, Amen.

I feel the same way. A few of us on a local anti-war list are in a discussion about this now, more specifically about whether cops are working class. I agree they come from it, and are wage slaves, but they are a class within a class, enemies of the class, the lower or working classes, however we make the divisions. You have to respect people who can change their minds and even radicalize as in the case of one local tax resister, a former member of Special Forces and later a cop, who if he is what he says he is read A people History and became a radical, quit the Anniston police force and started protesting in various ways. But you'll find this story less among cops than among military, or former military folks, who unlike a lot of cops mostly thought they were going to HELP "their" people (whoever that may be), or to have an "honest", respectable job, get an education, become worldly, and learn something useful to society. COPS fit a certain profile as I see it. You can't assume they are all the same, not at all. Just like you can't assume every billionaire would gladly sell your ass to keep his place in society, no, maybe not every one of them. But really, they are a class of insecure people who know they'll make good professional assholes who's functions are to fill out reports, protect property, keep a close watch on people of color, the poor and the toiling class, and to intimidate actual and would be activists of all sorts. That's just the class within the class, not all the individuals who are bullies. Demand the Forth Amendment be upheld, screw the Patriot Act and the police state. Say no every time a cop wants to search your vehicle, if they have any reason they'll just do it without asking. If they do that then demand they have their CO present while your vehicle is searched.

Happy Birthday Mike, I swear to my dog I am not a provocateur, except when I admit I am trying to provoke something. I'll just tell you, and you may not always like it but I have the feeling you'll let it fly and we can just argue over it. I won't try to be an asshole, assuming I get through, but I'm sure I can be one, especially when we discuss the role of cops in society. I understand completely the paranoia, and have had the same fears, both that i would not be trusted and that I might be hanging out with "red squad" spooks, or "Nazis".

Greek balls to you all. Talk to you later I hope.
