Democracy Now! | Exclusive: Facing Seven Years in Jail, Environmental Activist Daniel McGowan Speaks Out About the Earth Liberation Front, the Green Scare and the Government's Treatment of Activists as "Terrorists"

Since the turn of the century in this country beginning with the Palmer Raids, through the McCarthyism of the fifties and the civil rights movement in the early sixties and the government inspired hate-filled assassinations, law enforcement has been in debt to those who have the money.

Cops will never be able to pay that debt because those who issue the sticks, guns and badges are subject to the whimsical politics of the day, always in the temporary favor of the elite. It is a never-ending problem for a cop who wants to do "the right thing." Ask one sometime.

Community based police forces, able to respond, investigate and arrest with discretion toward public safety have been a "thing of the past" for years now. Some say "good cops" stopped when Mayberry stopped showing on television. Mayberry, they accurately pointed out, had no African Americans, migrant workers or wars for it's villagers to contend with.

Some say "good cops" , like Mayberry never existed. I know different. I personally challenge all cops watching this site [some my close friends] to take a look at this particular thoughtful broadcast. How many kids of this age group were rounded up for burning down abortion clinics during the ninties and received these kind of stiff sentences? Many of the "adults" convicted in the "abortion wars" didn't receive prison sentences this long after burning down multi-million dollar health clinics or conspiring to murder doctors.

Could it be that so many in law enforcement are stone cold suck-ass conservatives?

Or could it be, that a great many are just working class folks, who have to have a job and know which side of the bread slice is buttered? You be the judge.
