Depleted Uranium Contaminates Europe

"Dr. Katsuma Yagasaki, a Japanese physicist at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, has estimated that the atomicity equivalent of at least 400,000 Nagasaki bombs has been released into the global atmosphere since 1991, from the use of depleted uranium munitions."

It is completely mixed in the atmosphere in one year. The "smog of war" from Gulf War I was found in glaciers and ice sheets globally a year later.

27 February, 2006 - "Did the use of Uranium weapons in Gulf War II result in contamination of Europe? Evidence from the measurements of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Aldermaston, Berkshire, UK," reported the Sunday Times Online (February 19, 2006) in a shocking scientific study authored by British scientists Dr. Chris Busby and Saoirse Morgan.

The highest levels of depleted uranium ever measured in the atmosphere in Britain, were transported on air currents from the Middle East and Central Asia; of special significance were those from the Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan in 2001, and the "Shock & Awe" bombing during Gulf War II in Iraq in 2003.

Out of concern for the public, the official British government air monitoring facility, known as the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), at Aldermaston, was established years ago to measure radioactive emissions from British nuclear power plants and atomic weapons facilities.

THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT FACILITY (AWE) WAS TAKEN OVER 3 YEARS AGO BY HALLIBURTON, WHICH REFUSED AT FIRST TO RELEASE AIR MONITORING DATA TO DR. BUSBY, AS REQUIRED BY LAW.

An international expert on low level radiation, Busby serves as an official advisor on several British government committees, and co-authored an independent report on low level radiation with 45 scientists, the European Committee on Radiation Risk (ECRR), for the European Parliament. He was able to get Aldermaston air monitoring data from Halliburton /AWE by filing a Freedom of Information request using a new British law which became effective January 1, 2005; but the data for 2003 was missing. He obtained the 2003 data from the Defence Procurement Agency.

The fact that the air monitoring data was circulated by Halliburton/ AWE to the Defence Procurement Agency, implies that it was considered to be relevant, and that Dr. Busby was stonewalled because Halliburton/ AWE clearly recognized that it was a serious enough matter to justify a government interpretation of the results, and official decisions had to be made about what the data would show and its political implications for the military.

In a similar circumstance, in 1992, Major Doug Rokke, the Director of the U.S. Army Depleted Uranium Cleanup Project after Gulf War I, was ordered by a U.S. Army General officer to write a no-bid contract "Depleted Uranium, Contaminated Equipment, and Facilities Recovery Plan Outline" for the procedures for cleaning up Kuwait, including depleted uranium, for Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR), a subsidiary of Halliburton.

THE CONTRACT/PROPOSAL WAS PASSED THROUGH MADELEINE ALBRIGHT, THE SECRETARY OF STATE, TO THE EMIRATE OF KUWAIT, WHO CONSIDERED THE TERMS AND THEN HIRED KBR FOR THE CLEANUP.

Aldermaston is one of many nuclear facilities throughout Europe that regularly monitor atmospheric radiation levels, transported by atmospheric sand and dust storms, or air currents, from radiation sources in North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.

After the "Shock and Awe" campaign in Iraq in 2003, very fine particles of depleted uranium were captured with larger sand and dust particles in filters in Britain.

These particles traveled in 7-9 days from Iraqi battlefields as far as 2400 miles away.

The radiation measured in the atmosphere quadrupled within a few weeks after the beginning of the 2003 campaign, and at one of the 5 monitoring locations, the levels twice required an official alert to the British Environment Agency.

In addition to depleted uranium data gathered in previous studies on Kosovo and Bosnia by Dr. Busby, the Aldermaston air monitoring data provided a continuous record of depleted uranium levels in Britain from the other recent wars.

EXTENSIVE VIDEO NEWS FOOTAGE OF THE 2003 IRAQ WAR, INCLUDING FALLUJAH IN 2004, PROVIDED IRREFUTABLE DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE THAT THE US HAS UNETHICALLY AND ILLEGALLY USED DEPLETED URANIUM MUNITIONS ON CITIES AND OTHER CIVILIAN POPULATIONS.

These military actions are in direct violation of not only the international conventions, but also violate US military law because the US is a signatory to The Hague and Geneva Conventions and the 1925 Geneva Gas Protocol.

DEPLETED URANIUM WEAPONRY MEETS THE DEFINITION OF A WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION (WMD) IN TWO OUT OF THREE CATEGORIES UNDER US CODE TITLE 50, CHAPTER 40 SEC. 2302.

After action mandates have also been violated such as US Army Regulation AR 700-48 and TB 9-1300-278 which requires treatment of radiation poisoning for all casualties, including enemy soldiers and civilians, and remediation.

Dr. Busby's request for this data through Halliburton from AWE, and subsequently provided by the Defence Procurement Agency, was necessary to establish verification of Iraq's 2003 depleted uranium levels in the atmosphere.

These facts demonstrate why Halliburton (AWE) refused to release the 2003 data to him, and it obviously establishes that weaponized depleted uranium is an indiscriminate weapon being distributed all over the world in a very short period of time, immediately after its use.

The recent documentary film BEYOND TREASON details the horrific effects of depleted uranium exposure on American troops and Iraqi civilians in the Gulf region in 1991; not to speak of those civilians continuing to live in permanently contaminated and thus uninhabitable regions.

Global increases since 1991 of melanoma, infant mortality, and frog die-offs can only be explained by an environmental contaminant. Alarming global increases in diabetes, with high correlation to depleted uranium wars in Iraq, Bosnia/Kosovo, and Afghanistan, demonstrate that diabetes is a sensitive indicator and a rapid response to internal depleted uranium exposure.

Americans in 2003 reported visiting Iraqi relatives in Baghdad who were suffering from an epidemic of diabetes.

After returning to the US following 2-3 weeks in Iraq, they discovered within a few months that they too had diabetes.

Japanese human shields and journalists who worked in Iraq during the 2003 war are sick and now have symptoms typical of depleted uranium exposure.

Likewise, after the US Navy, several years ago, moved depleted uranium bombing and gunnery ranges from Vieques Island in Puerto Rico to Australia, health effects there are already being reported.

The documentary film BLOWIN' IN THE WIND, has an interview with a family with two normal teenage daughters, living near the bombing range where depleted uranium weaponry is now being used.

The parents showed photos of their baby born recently with severe birth defects. The baby looked like Iraqi deformed babies, and like many of the Iraqi babies, died 5 days after birth.

Other than anonymous British government officials denying that Iraq was the source of the depleted uranium measured at Aldermaston by AWE, and some unnamed 'establishment scientists' blaming it on local sources or natural uranium in the Iraq environment, there is no one, as of this writing, willing to lend their name or office to refuting this damning evidence reported by Dr. Busby.

ALL OF THE ANONYMOUS STATEMENTS USED BY THE MEDIA THUS FAR ARE CONTRADICTED BY THE FACTUAL EVIDENCE FOUND IN THE FILTERS, WHICH WAS ALL TRANSPORTED FROM THE SAME REGION.

The natural abundance of uranium in the crust of the earth is 2.4 parts per million, which would not become concentrated to the high levels measured in Britain during a long journey from the Middle East. These particles traveling over thousands of miles would dilute the concentration rather than increase it.

There are no known natural uranium deposits in Iraq which make it impossible for these anonymous claims to have scientific credibility.

Unnamed government sources blamed local sources in Britain such as nuclear power plants; however that would also leave evidence of fission products in the filters which were not in evidence.

The lowest levels measured at monitoring stations around Aldermaston were at the facility, which means it could not be a possible source. Atomic weapons facilities would be more likely to produce plutonium contamination, also not reported as a co-contaminant at Aldermaston.

In other words, all factual evidence considered, the question must be asked, what were the media's anonymous experts and government officials basing their claims on?

Dr. Keith Baverstock exposed a World Health Organization (WHO) cover-up on depleted uranium in an Aljazeera article, "Washington's Secret Nuclear War" posted on September 14, 2004. It was the most popular article ever posted on the Aljazeera English language website.*

Baverstock leaked an official WHO report that he wrote, to the media several years ago after the WHO refused to publish it. He warned in the report about the mobility of, and environmental contamination from, tiny depleted uranium particles formed from US munitions.

Busby's ECRR report challenged the International Committee on Radiation Protection (ICRP) standards for radiation risk, and reported that the mutagenic effects of radiation determined by Chernobyl studies are actually 1000 times higher than the ICRP risk model predicts.

The ECRR report also establishes that the ICRP risk model, based on external exposure of Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims, and the ECRR risk model, based on internal exposure, are mutually exclusive models. In other words, the ICRP risk model based on external exposure cannot be used to estimate internal exposure risk.

The report also states that a separate study is needed for depleted uranium exposure risks, because it may be far more toxic than nuclear weapons or nuclear power plant exposures. In July of 2005, the National Academy of Sciences reported in their new BEIR VII report on low level radiation, that there is "no safe level of exposure".

The report also finally admitted that very low levels are more harmful per unit of radiation than higher levels of exposure, also known as the "supralinear" effect.

This is extremely alarming information on low level radiation risk, since the AWE data from Aldermaston confirms that rapid global transport of depleted uranium dust is occurring.

Even more alarming is the non-specific catalytic or enzyme effect from internal exposures to nanoparticles of depleted uranium. Soldiers on depleted uranium battlefields have reported that, after noticing a metallic taste in their mouths, within 24-48 hours of exposure they became sick with Gulf War syndrome symptoms.

WHO IS PROFITING FROM THIS GLOBAL URANIUM NIGHTMARE?

Dr. Jay Gould revealed in his book THE ENEMY WITHIN, that the British Royal family privately owns investments in uranium holdings worth over $6 billion through Rio Tinto Mines.

The mining company was formed for the British Royal family in the late 1950's by Roland Walter "Tiny" Rowland, the Queen's buccaneer.

"Our Man" in the Phillipines Returns! Part 3

Our exclusive report continues with his travels after Hong Kong:

Returned to Philippines from Hong Kong on Saturday and for 3 days stayed with a relative of Jxxx's one hour south of Manila. She is degreed and works for an international noodle maker as a flavor specialist, he is a sergeant (E-5) in the Philippine Marine Corps (900 strong) or the equivalent of one reinforced U.S. battalion. He trained on a regular with US Marines. He is very pro US as is most of the people of the P.I.

He has been in for 10 years and spent 8 of those years in Mindanao (southern P.I.) fighting the Abu Sayaf terrorist group. One of about 4 operating in the Islands. He said that it was very scary and his living and working conditions were very poor. For this combat duty he received an extra 240 pesos per month ($4.75). Six of his comrades have been killed in Mindanao since 2000. Since 1990, over 2,000 P.I. military have been killed INSIDE the P.I. fighting terrorists. They almost sent him as a UN peacekeeper in Haiti buy now he is doing ceremonial duties in Manila for 5 years.

They live in a tiny house with no running hot water, no toilet seat, no house phone (both have cells), no screens on windows and no aircon and no car. Bought house for about $6,000 with 20% down and 17% per anum interest. Jing and I battled the mosquitoes all night for our 3 nights there.

Came into Manila 2 days ago in a rented taxi with driver and went to the Malacanang Palace ( Philippine White House) office complex to have coffee and crumpets with an Aunt of Jxxx's, Josephine Dominguez who is Under Secretary for Political Affairs. As we waited to get into the complex, which is surrounded by heavily armed military guards, a large motorcade passed us with many police on cycles, fortified war wagons, limo's and a trailing ambulance. Probably President Arroyo but not sure.

As we drove into Manila, the contrast between luxury condo living, new cars, expensive shopping malls and utter poverty and human deprivation could not be more evident. Along our toll road between the road and a set of railroad tracks were shacks ( a compliment in this case) of plywood and tin with all kinds of objects such as old tires, chairs and chunks of broken cement thrown on the roofs to keep the roof down in high winds. No water, electricity or sanitation to be had. As we passed under overpasses only a kilometer from the palace there were dozens of people to include infants living in small cardboard boxes under the bridges.

Had over-priced dinner overlooking Manila Bay. Nice view of lighted ships passing in the darkness and as an added benefit the stench from the Bay was not bad. Manila, a sprawling city of 12 million, has no sewage treatment plant. All of the cities waste finds it's way via the Pasig River into the bay where it is basically trapped there by the protective topography of the harbor. Such is the never ending contradictions of this place. Beautiful islands, very friendly people and 70% poverty (90% by our standards).

Yesterday, went to the US Military Cemetery in Manila where 17,000 US and Filipino Scouts who died fighting the Japanese invaders of WWII. Beautiful grounds and facility with cement colonnades on which all the names, ranks and home states for each person is listed as well as identification in gold for the numerous Medal of Honor recipients. Also, within the structure is a beautiful detailed history of the entire war in the Pacific done in huge, colored mini-stoned murals.

But also Buckley Jr. forgets to point the reader in the right direction. Nor would I use Galileo’s first name in referring to him. But that may be a matter of manners. In the article 'links' are used, but not to the 'indignation' article, in defense of 'freedom of speech'.*

The right to freedom of speech is guaranteed under international law through numerous human rights instruments, notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.*

President George W. Bush was scheduled to visit the Episcopal Church's National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., as part of his campaign to restore his poll standings.

Bush's campaign manager, Karl Rove, made a visit to the Bishop, and said to him: "We've been getting a lot of bad publicity because of the President's position on the Iraq War, Hurricane Katrina, stem cell research, and the like. We'd gladly make a contribution to the church of $100,000 if, during your sermon, you'd say the President is a saint."

The Bishop thought it over for a few moments.

Finally he said: "The Church is in desperate need of funds, so I will agree to do it."

When President Bush and Karl Rove showed up in church that Sunday, the Bishop began his sermon: "I'd like to speak to you all this morning about our President. It gives me no pleasure to state that George Walker Bush is a liar, a cheat, and a low-intelligence weasel.

He took the tragedy of September 11 and used it to frighten and manipulate the American people. He lied about WMDs and then illegally invaded Iraq for oil and money, causing the deaths of well over one-hundred thousand people, and making the United States the most hated country on earth.

He appointed cronies to positions of power and influence, leading to widespread death and destruction during Hurricane Katrina. He awarded contracts and tax-cuts to his rich friends, so we now have more poverty in this country, and a greater gap between rich and poor, than we've had since the Great Depression.

He instituted illegal domestic wiretaps when getting a warrant from a secret court would have been a mere administrative detail, had his henchmen lie to Congress about it, then claimed he is above the law. He has headed the most corrupt, bribe-inducing political party since the Teapot Dome Scandal.

The national surplus has turned into a staggering national debt, gas prices are up 55%, and vital research into global warming and stem cells is stopped cold because he's afraid to lose votes from some religious kooks."

"I was going to say that he is the worst example of a true Christian I've ever known. At this moment, the Bishop looked directly at Karl Rove, who was apoplectic.

"But compared to Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, George W. Bush is a saint!"

Introduction

Many times during a manhunt one must rely on traditional tools to establish the “last known whereabouts” or the “most immediate vicinity” of the subject desired.  Getting to there is another problem, finding people to talk is another and evaluating their credibility; an art form.  Many of you have asked my opinion on the “9/11 Controversy” and I have been reluctant to offer it.  I offer the below for consideration.

 

I do feel it necessary to add that scores of women’s clinics across the country received similar “anthrax death threats” prior to the lethal ones launched on Congress.   And, that extortion “works” when no one is prosecuted.  Many people have been intimidated, including those within the government.

 

It is more important to consider the traditional – means, opportunity and motives when it comes to discovering the culprit(s).

 

I am sure that in the years ahead, people will learn; much to our collective folly.

Some things you need to know before the world ends

How I spent my 15 minutes of fame

In case you don't know, on January 19 the latest audiotape from Osama bin Laden was released and in it he declared:

"If you [Americans] are sincere in your desire for peace and security, we have answered you. And if Bush decides to carry on with his lies and oppression, then it would be useful for you to read the book ‛Rogue State', which states in its introduction ...”

He then goes on to quote the opening of a paragraph I wrote (which appears actually in the Foreword of the British edition only, that was later translated to Arabic), which in full reads:

"If I were the president, I could stop terrorist attacks against the United States in a few days. Permanently. I would first apologize -- very publicly and very sincerely -- to all the widows and the orphans, the impoverished and the tortured, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism. I would then announce that America’s global interventions -- including the awful bombings -- have come to an end. And I would inform Israel that it is no longer the 51st state of the union but -– oddly enough -– a foreign country. I would then reduce the military budget by at least 90% and use the savings to pay reparations to the victims and repair the damage from the many American bombings and invasions. There would be more than enough money. Do you know what one year of the US military budget is equal to? One year. It’s equal to more than $20,000 per hour for every hour since Jesus Christ was born. That’s what I’d do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I’d be assassinated."

Within hours I was swamped by the media and soon appeared on many of the leading TV shows, dozens of radio programs, with long profiles in the Washington Post, Salon.com and elsewhere. In the previous ten years the Post had declined to print a single one of my letters, most of which had pointed out errors in their foreign news coverage.

Now my photo was on page one.

Much of the media wanted me to say that I was repulsed by bin Laden's "endorsement".

I did not say I was repulsed because I was not.

After a couple of days of interviews I got my reply together and it usually went something like this:

"There are two elements involved here: On the one hand, I totally despise any kind of religious fundamentalism and the societies spawned by such, like the Taliban in Afghanistan. On the other hand, I'm a member of a movement which has the very ambitious goal of slowing down, if not stopping, the American Empire, to keep it from continuing to go round the world doing things like bombings, invasions, overthrowing governments, and torture. To have any success, we need to reach the American people with our message. And to reach the American people we need to have access to the mass media. What has just happened has given me the opportunity to reach millions of people I would otherwise never reach. Why should I not be glad about that? How could I let such an opportunity go to waste?"

Celebrity -- modern civilization's highest cultural achievement -- is a peculiar phenomenon. It really isn't worth anything unless you do something with it.

The callers into the programs I was on, and sometimes the host, in addition to numerous emails, repeated two main arguments against me.

(1) Where else but in the United States could I have the freedom to say what I was saying on national media?

Besides their profound ignorance in not knowing of scores of countries with at least equal freedom of speech (particularly since September 11), what they are saying in effect is that I should be so grateful for my freedom of speech that I should show my gratitude by not exercising that freedom.

If they're not saying that, they're not saying anything.

(2) America has always done marvelous things for the world, from the Marshall Plan and defeating communism and the Taliban to rebuilding destroyed countries and freeing Iraq. I have dealt with these myths and misconceptions previously; like sub-atomic particles, they behave differently when observed. For example, in last month's report I pointed out in detail that "destroyed countries" were usually destroyed by American bombs; and America did not rebuild them.

As to the Taliban, the United States overthrew a secular, women's-rights government in Afghanistan, which led to the Taliban coming to power; so the US can hardly be honored for ousting the Taliban a decade later, replacing it with an American occupation, an American puppet president, assorted warlords, and women chained.

But try to explain all these fine points in the minute or so one has on radio or TV.

However, I think I somehow managed to squeeze in a lot of information and thoughts new to the American psyche.

Some hosts and many callers were clearly pained to hear me say that anti-American terrorists are retaliating against the harm done to their countries by US foreign policy, and are not just evil, mindless, madmen from another planet.[1] Many of them assumed, with lots of certainty and no good reason at all, that I was a supporter of the Democratic Party and they proceeded to attack Bill Clinton.

When I pointed out that I was no fan at all of the Democrats or Clinton, they were usually confused into silence for a few moments before seamlessly jumping to some other piece of nonsense.

They do not know that an entire alternative world exists above and beyond the Republicans and Democrats.

Just recently we have been hearing and reading comments in the American media about how hopelessly backward and violent were those Muslims protesting the Danish cartoons, carrying signs calling for the beheading of those that insult Islam.

But a caller to a radio program I was on said I "should be taken care of", and one of the hundreds of nasty emails I received began: "Death to you and your family."

One of my personal favorite moments:

On an AM radio program in Pennsylvania, discussing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict:

The host (with anguish in her voice): "What has Israel ever done to the Palestinians?"

Me: "Have you been in a coma the past 20 years?"

This is a question I could ask many of those who interrogated me the past few weeks.

Actually, 60 years would be more appropriate.

Elections my teacher never told me about

Americans are all taught from childhood on of the significance and sanctity of free elections: You can't have the thing called "democracy" without the thing called "free elections". And when you have the thing called free elections it's virtually synonymous with having the thing called democracy.

And who were we taught was the greatest champion of free elections anywhere in the world? Why, our very same teacher, God's country, the good ol' US of A.

But what was God's country actually doing all those years we were absorbing and swearing by this message? God's country was actually interfering in free elections in every corner of the known world; seriously so.

The latest example is the recent elections in Palestine, where the US Agency for International Development (AID) poured in some two million dollars (a huge amount in that impoverished area) to try to tilt the election to the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its political wing, Fatah, and prevent the radical Islamic group Hamas from taking power.

The money was spent on various social programs and events to increase the popularity of the PA; the projects bore no evidence of US involvement and did not fall within the definitions of traditional development work. In addition, the United States funded many newspaper advertisements publicizing these projects in the name of the PA, with no mention of AID.

"Public outreach is integrated into the design of each project to highlight the role of the P.A. in meeting citizens needs," said a progress report on the projects. "The plan is to have events running every day of the coming week, beginning 13 January, such that there is a constant stream of announcements and public outreach about positive happenings all over Palestinian areas in the critical week before the elections."

Under the rules of the Palestinian election system, campaigns and candidates were prohibited from accepting money from foreign sources.[2]

American law explicitly forbids the same in US elections.

Since Hamas won the election, the United States has made it clear that it does not recognize the election as any kind of victory for democracy and that it has no intention of having normal diplomatic relations with the Hamas government. (Israel has adopted a similar attitude, but it should not be forgotten that Israel funded and supported the emergence of Hamas in Gaza during its early days, hoping that it would challenge the Palestine Liberation Organization as well as Palestinian leftist elements.)

By my count, there have been more than 30 instances of gross Washington interference in foreign elections since the end of World War II -- from Italy in 1948 and the Philippines and Lebanon in the 1950s, to Nicaragua, Bolivia and Slovakia in the 2000s -- most of them carried out in an even more flagrant manner than the Palestinian example.[3]

Some of the techniques employed have been used in the United States itself as our electoral system, once the object of much national and international pride, has slid inexorably from "one person, one vote", to "one dollar, one vote".

Coming soon to a country (or city) near you
On January 13 the United States of America, in its shocking and awesome wisdom, saw fit to fly an unmanned Predator aircraft over a remote village in the sovereign nation of Pakistan and fire a Hellfire missile into a residential compound in an attempt to kill some "bad guys". Several houses were incinerated, 18 people were killed, including an unknown number of "bad guys"; reports since then give every indication that the unknown number is as low as zero, al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri, the principal target, not being amongst them. Outrage is still being expressed in Pakistan.

In the United States the reaction in the Senate typified the American outrage:
"We apologize, but I can't tell you that we wouldn't do the same thing again" said Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

"It's a regrettable situation, but what else are we supposed to do?" said Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana.

"My information is that this strike was clearly justified by the intelligence," said Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi.[4]

Similar US attacks using such drones and missiles have angered citizens and political leaders in Afghanistan, Iraq and Yemen. In has not been uncommon for the destruction to be so complete that it is impossible to establish who was killed, or even how many people. Amnesty International has lodged complaints with the Busheviks following each suspected Predator strike. A UN report in the wake of the 2002 strike in Yemen called it "an alarming precedent [and] a clear case of extrajudicial killing" in violation of international laws and treaties.[5]

Can it be imagined that American officials would fire a missile into a house in Paris or London or Ottawa because they suspected that high-ranking al Qaeda members were present there?

Even if the US knew of their presence for an absolute fact, and not just speculation as in the Predator cases mentioned above? Well, most likely not, but can we put anything past Swaggering- Superarrogant-Superpower-Cowboys-on-steroids? After all, they've already done it to their own, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On May 13, 1985, a bomb dropped by a police helicopter burned down an entire block, some 60 homes destroyed, 11 dead, including several small children. The police, the mayor’s office, and the FBI were all involved in this effort to evict an organization called MOVE from the house they lived in.

The victims were all black of course. So let's rephrase the question.

Can it be imagined that American officials would fire a missile into a residential area of Beverly Hills or the upper east side of Manhattan? Stay tuned.

I'm occasionally taken to task for being so negative about the United States role in the world. Why do you keep looking for all the negative stuff and tear down the positive? I'm asked.

Well, it's a nasty job, but someone has to do it. Besides, for each negative piece I'm paid $500 by al Qaeda. And the publicity given to my books by Osama ... priceless.

The new documentary film by Eugene Jarecki, "Why We Fight", which won the Sundance Festival's Grand Jury prize, relates how the pursuit of profit by arms merchants and other US corporations has fueled America's post-World War II wars a lot more than any love of freedom and democracy. The unlikely hero of the film is Dwight Eisenhower, whose famous warning about the dangers of the "military-industrial complex" is the film's principal motif.

Here is Jarecki being interviewed by the Washington Post:

Post: Why did you make "Why We Fight?"

Jarecki: The simple answer: Eisenhower. He caught me off-guard. He seemed to have so much to say about our contemporary society and our general tilt towards militarism. ... The voices in Washington and the media have become so shrill. ... It seemed important to bring a little gray hair into the mix.

Post: How would you classify your politics? You've been accused of being a lefty.

Jarecki: I'm a radical centrist. ... If Dwight Eisenhower is a lefty, I am too. Then I'll walk with Ike.[6] [ellipses in original]


Isn't it nice that a film portraying the seamier side of the military-industrial complex is receiving such popular attention? And that we are able to look fondly upon an American president? How long has that been?

Well, here I go again.

Eisenhower, regardless of what he said as he was leaving the presidency, was hardly an obstacle to American militarism or corporate imperialism.

During his eight years in office, the United States intervened in every corner of the world, overthrowing the governments of Iran, Guatemala, Laos, the Congo, and British Guiana, and attempting to do the same in Costa Rica, Syria, Egypt, and Indonesia, as well as laying the military and political groundwork for the coming Indochinese holocaust.

Eisenhower's moralistically overbearing Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, summed up the administration's world outlook thusly:

"For us there are two sorts of people in the world: there are those who are Christians and support free enterprise and there are the others."[7]

While the twenty-first century has already taken a gory start, it was the last century that stands out as the most horrific and brutal testimony to our blood-lust. We killed three times more people in wars in this one century alone than in all the previous five centuries. Since the end of the Second World War in 1945 there have been over 250 major wars in which we put to death more than 23 million of our brethren, made homeless tens of millions and injured and bereaved countless millions. 3 out of 4 fatalities of these wars have been our women and children. 50 million of our fellow beings have been forced to flee their homes because of our conflicts since the 1990s alone............................

More than a billion Muslims don't agree. Conservative MP Hirsi Ali complimented the conservative Danish neocon PM Rasmussen; defending the publication last October of the Mohammed cartoons in Jyllands Posten. She also blasted Dutch political puppets like Prime (better said Crime) minister Balkenende, for not having the 'guts' to do so. The strongly US neocon business oriented Dutch 'managers' are vehemently opposed to her statements, or for that matter to anybody or anything which can endanger the multinational's profitable restructuring of their energy needs.

As an independent journalist/correspondent I've lived and worked for ten years in the so called 'Arab World', also during Gulf War I, among many phenomena - covering the 'Potemkin peace talks' with the Israeli/American 'negotiators' and their 'road map'.

A truly rotten 'Road map' for the Palestinians, leading straight to their grave. Those years made me start understanding the anger of the Palestinian and Arab populations concerning the West's treacherous tactics. Your 'terrorist' is their freedom fighter: they rightfully resist the inhuman treatment.

The whole sick propaganda in the main$tream media - which the warmongers own - never mentions the fact that the group 'running' the wars has it's own 'Thought Police' straight out of Orwell. Their 'Freedom of Speech' means that they decide what 'freedom' is.

As the very unintelligent Dutch minister for Foreign Affairs 'Ben Bot' said: "Of course we defend 'Freedom of Speech'. But that doesn't mean that one can say anything: there are laws."


FREEDOM WHICH IS CURBED BY LAWS IS NO FREEDOM

It's the same fake 'freedom' as for instance Americans in general - and the people in the by them and their media dominated colonies - have: as long as you say what they want to hear it's OK. Otherwise you go to jail. Like the four people who linger in jail now in 'Chancellor' Angela Merkel's neocon Germany who did not deny the Holocaust but have some totally normal and logical questions about the research concerning it. Or is insulting over a billion Muslims all right, while asking questions concerning the Holocaust is taboo? How come, who stipulates that aberration?


WHO DECIDES WHAT I OR OTHERS CAN SAY, ASK OR THINK? - WHY?

But according to Bush we are either ''for or against'' 'terrorism'” and his murderous policy, thus the neocons have declared Francois Voltaire and his human ideas null, void and dead.

Because he is supposed to have said that "No right is more fundamental than freedom of speech. Without freedom of speech you can't communicate your ideas and feelings, decry a social injustice, pursue an artistic vision, investigate scientific truth, practice a religion, or criticize government. If freedom of speech is destroyed, self-development is crippled, social progress grinds to a halt, and official lies become the only ‘truth.’”

Although freedom of speech can be inhibited by intolerant people, it can only be destroyed by brute force, particularly government force." - Isn't that exactly what the Washington Junta has done?

Replacing 'Freedom of Speech and Opinion' by their permanent lies and brainwashing?

Destroying all and everything for profit?

Daily one can see in real life what also Voltaire said: “It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong"

Especially with the neocons using the slogan Voltaire also warned for:Say: "Believe as I do, or I shall assassinate you."

They must be stopped, before they kill us all.

In a scientific breakthrough that has stunned the world, a team of South African scientists has developed a revolutionary new, highly efficient solar power technology that will enable homes to obtain all their electricity from the sun.

This means high electricity bills and frequent power failures could soon be a thing of the past.

The unique South African-developed solar panels will make it possible for houses to become completely self-sufficient for energy supplies.

The panels are able to generate enough energy to run stoves, geysers, lights, TVs, fridges, computers - in short all the mod-cons of the modern house.

Nothing else comes close to the effectiveness of the SA invention

The new technology should be available in South Africa within a year and through a special converter, energy can be fed directly into the wiring of existing houses. New powerful storage units will allow energy storage to meet demands even in winter. The panels are so efficient they can operate through a Cape Town winter. while direct sunlight is ideal for high-energy generation, other daytime light also generates energy via the panels.

A team of scientists led by University of Johannesburg (formerly Rand Afrikaans University) scientist Professor Vivian Alberts achieved the breakthrough after 10 years of research. The South African technology has now been patented across the world.

One of the world leaders in solar energy, German company IFE Solar Systems, has invested more than R500-million in the South African invention and is set to manufacture 500 000 of the panels before the end of the year at a new plant in Germany.

Production will start next month and the factory will run 24 hours a day, producing more than 1 000 panels a day to meet expected demand.

Another large German solar company is negotiating with the South African inventors for rights to the technology, while a South African consortium of businesses are keen to build local factories.

The new, highly efficient and cheap alloy solar panel is much more efficient than the costly old silicone solar panels.

International experts have admitted that nothing else comes close to the effectiveness of the South African invention.

The South African solar panels consist of a thin layer of a unique metal alloy that converts light into energy. The photo-responsive alloy can operate on virtually all flexible surfaces, which means it could in future find a host of other applications.

Alberts said the new panels are approximately five microns thick (a human hair is 20 microns thick) while the older silicon panels are 350 microns thick. the cost of the South African technology is a fraction of the less effective silicone solar panels.

Alberts said in Switzerland it was already compulsory for all new houses to include solar technology to lessen energy demands on national grids.

"And that was the older, less effective technology. With our hours of sunlight, we will on average generate twice as much energy than, for instance, European countries."

While South African scientists developed and patented the new, super-effective alloy solar panels, other companies have developed new, super-efficient storage batteries and special converters to change the energy into the power source of a particular country (220 volts in South Africa).

*    Eskom spokesperson Carin de Villiers said any new power supply that lessened the load on Eskom was to be welcomed.

She said Eskom was also doing its own research on solar energy.

"In fact, we are currently investigating building what will probably be the largest solar power plant, in the Northern Cape - a 100-megawatt facility."

She added that Eskom was also researching wind and fuel-cell technology as alternative energy sources.
