Golden Oldie! Readers' Request.

From “Podunk News from Bush Country” 1st Weekend, August, 2005 to the general readership email list of the FCF!

FELLOW PODUNKS, DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
"We're determined to go into the entire world if we have to and do everything that we can in our power."
- Tony Sawyer, U.S.D. 501 Topeka Public School Superintendent, commenting on the recent group hiring of schoolteachers from India.  Claims Kansas teachers are unavailable for teaching certain subjects. -
“Run the public schools like businesses, if they don’t make money fold them up.”  So goes the common refrain from most legislators on both sides of the aisles, Republican or Democratic, lawmakers boil the most complex of issues down to easy to understand sound bites for us simple-minded idiots living on the ground in Kansas.  Dumb us down; then our kids, cut funding and feed us to the corporate hogs.

Cheap is good.
As if, tax abatements to Wally’s World and other big box chain stores don’t kill the rural villages, fool us into buying everything imported that is cheap – now our teachers must make lower and lower wages.  Cheap is good.  Jobs that we hear from Bush and his ilk, “nobody wants” are seldom described as “so low wage nobody wants to work for it.”  And just like the CEOs across the country from Enron, Westar and Halliburton the politicians never tell us what their protected patrons are making in big – time salaries and posh office perks.

Cheaper must be better.
When will our elected politicians at every level of government; including the local school boards get some guts and cut the most obvious of gougers.

School systems across the state some with administrators’ salaries easily over $150,000 already stretched with funding issues take a new look at solutions with an “international flare” according to our self – described “news leader” WIBW - TV.   Republican majorities in both chambers of the state legislature attempt to cut overall funding while legislating Christian morality takes the front seat.  The dirty side of “free market” economics comes home to roost with this story at: http://tinyurl.com/bqtpn
And look at the paltry salaries shelled out to basic teachers in the same school district.  You will need to click the document marked “Certified Appts” on the list, rat bastards prevent me from giving exact location, so go there click and look at: http://tinyurl.com/8npn3 , full time minimum wage hourly workers in this state are not treated much better.  See, cheap is good.

THE CHEAPEST MUST BE BEST!
BIG KANSAS NEWS MEDIA – BIG HOGS FEEDING FAT
The local news media, no stranger to top down “bottom line” managerial style: http://tinyurl.com/9ynpo constantly pumps profitability as the rule.  Local news media conglomerates have home pages (in Georgia) and brag, “Gray Television, Inc. currently operates 16 CBS-affiliated television stations, eight NBC-affiliated television stations, seven ABC-affiliated television stations and five daily newspapers.”  This monster corporation owns WIBW - TV.
ONE, TWO, THREE WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOR?
THE LARGEST NEWS MARKETS IN KANSAS ARE MORE AKIN TO “VERTICAL” HOG OPERATIONS; POLLUTING, SPREADING OUR FEARLESS LEADERS IDEAS AND CHICKEN LITTLE CONSUMERISM.
Who owns the largest daily newspaper in Kansas City?  The second largest publisher of papers in the country, that’s who! SEE BIG IS BETTER!  Now who also owns http://tinyurl.com/c5he2  the largest daily newspaper in Wichita, and in the lucrative third largest Johnson County Kansas market? http://tinyurl.com/8k4b7  It all sounds pretty hometown to us damn rustic villagers in the Heartland.
Who owns the largest newspaper in Topeka, the wide ass seat of our state government?
Throw in a few of the oldest radio stations in the state; a few more country weekly newspapers, and what do you get?    A corporation that owns the state’s capital daily newspaper:  http://tinyurl.com/cgfgn the bigger AM radio stations in the state broadcasting rabid right – wing talk shows: http://tinyurl.com/buz4j
The one sucking up country weekly newspapers: http://tinyurl.com/72osl
Ever feel like a trained pig in a loading chute, how about a chicken tightly packed into a truck cage?  Bamboozled into hating each other for any reason whatsoever, the real hogs are selling us “news.“

NETWORKING THE OUTSOURCED YUPPIES

What are the Bakers up to in Washington DC?  That is Mr. and Mrs. Howard Baker, the former members of our lofty U. S. Senate.  Former Kansas Senator Nancy Kassenbaum (Baker) and her husband are joining what some are calling “The Radical Center” to stop the Bush agenda from further dividing the country’s voters on foreign policy.  Hmmm, http://tinyurl.com/8h5z2 too bad my Republican relatives can’t admit to being fooled.

All you Republicans out there … here is one of your own saying, “we are mad as hell and we’re not taking it anymore.”  See: http://tinyurl.com/7vuom

You say conservatives, like good children are hard – working, thrifty and resourceful, willing to clean up their own messes at: http://tinyurl.com/9vj7g

Meanwhile, just a few hundred miles a veterans group holds its 20th anniversary convention http://tinyurl.com/8pq7g

BUSHITES, UNITE – YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE …

An excellent short historical survey for the bloodshot eyes of screaming patriots for Bush:  http://tinyurl.com/a3czn ; also how the word “imperialism” got such a bad rap in America and why it isn’t used in public: http://tinyurl.com/dnjfc

Aaron Glantz discussing with host and callers his new book recently returned from Iraq.  This is absolutely “must – see” information for both sides on the Iraq war.  It has been archived under “Recent Programs” at the C – Span Washington Journal archive page.  Look for the August 3, 2005 program – first in guest line – up is a pro – Iraq War journalist from the London Times, followed a good hour and a half into the program by Glantz.  To get started go to: http://tinyurl.com/8ee95
