VHeadline.com commentarist Stephen Lendman writes:  The way things are today, why on earth would the "big fool lunatics in charge" in Washington ever want another war or maybe two of them. Already they're "waist deep in the Big Muddy" in two out-of-control debacles in the Middle East and Central Asia, and the country is leaching multi-billions we don't have to pay for them.

Despite this hopeless chaos, it looks almost certain we're now headed for a new one against another Middle East 4-letter country beginning with the letter "I", and may try to "double our displeasure" by including a "fracas in Caracas."

I just learned about an "Operation Bilbao" which appears to be blueprint to overthrow the Chavez government and likely includes in it targeted assassinations starting with the guy in charge.

Do these neo-crazies in Washington really think they can pull all this off -- wars on four fronts. Don't these guys have anyone around with a sense of history?

Forget about morality and such.

These folks have none of that.

But even kids in high school learn that Hitler was doomed when he decided to wage war on two fronts. And we all know what happened to Napoleon and a few other less notables. It's what happens when your "eyes get bigger than your stomach", and the indigestion that results is called "demise by overreach." It's no different now than a couple of generations ago or a couple of centuries either.

AGAIN, IT'S FOR THE OIL STUPID AND THE THIRD AND FOURTH TARGETS ARE IRAN AND VENEZUELA

Call it the curse of having too much oil or maybe any. If only they just grew stuff we eat there instead of pumping the stuff our "gas guzzlers" do. Iran and Venezuela have so much of the "black gold" their countries are practically floating on it. But in a world where a predatory USA can't even breathe without it, that makes them public enemies one and two -- unless they agree to hand it all over to us.

IN "GODFATHER" LANGUAGE, THAT'S CALLED "MAKING AN OFFER THEY CAN'T REFUSE."

That's the way it works in a world where "only what we say goes and we make all the rules." Any nation unwilling to follow our orders and obey them becomes a target for regime change by whatever means it takes -- including by illegal aggression using industrial strength nuclear weapons the US now plans to throw around like hand grenades.

• I've written some in other articles about Iran and said then and now I believe things are "hotting up" as my UK friends would say. They're #1 in the target queue, and it could be (nuclear) bombs away at any time.

   
   * But here I only want to discuss Venezuela because after Iran I have almost no doubt Venezuela is next.

The US may even try to make it a twosome in their infinite lunacy. These reckless, lawless fools are often wrong but never in doubt. When you rule the world or want to, you even believe you have the right to blow it up.

• To understand what's in the wind, all you have to do is clean out your ears, open your eyes and pay attention. The US war drums are beating a duet, and they're getting louder. Listen up, here's the message on the Venezuelan front.

On March 28, the Virginia Pilot of Norfolk, VA (that's where the biggest US naval force is based and where I once lived for a year) reported that the US Navy is sending an aircraft carrier strike group composed of four ships and 60 aircraft to Caribbean and South American waters for a "major" training exercise.

All four ships are capable of launching cruise missiles that might and could be armed with nuclear warheads. By my reckoning, that's a provocative and hostile act.

Now combine that with the growing hostile rhetoric coming out of Washington directed at Hugo Chavez. I wrote in a previous article that Latin American expert James Petras wrote (now some months ago) that the US has a strategy to overthrow President Chavez by military force and at the same time destroy the Cuban revolution in a "two step" process -- "first overthrow the Chavez government in Venezuela, cut off the energy supply and trade links (to Cuba) and then proceed toward economic strangulation and military attack."

He also believed then the US would employ a "triangular strategy" to overthrow Chavez -- "a military invasion from Colombia, US intervention (by air and sea attacks plus special forces to assassinate key officials) and an internal uprising by infiltrated terrorists and military traitors, supported by key media, financial and petrol elites."

That's an ominous scenario to consider, but now add to it the kind of Washington rhetoric that makes it all sound possible. Here's some of the language from 2005 to the present, and it's getting meaner. Various US officials including CIA Chief Porter Goss, Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and a growing number of others have called President Chavez a "threat to democracy" and an "elected dictatorship", and they said it without even a touch of irony. They accused him of doing "away with the rule of law, (packing) the courts (and) carrying out anti-democratic activities" like a dictator.

IT GETS WORSE.

The just updated National Security Strategy, published so we can all read it, specifically singles out Hugo Chavez as "a demagogue awash in oil money (who is) undermining democracy and seeking to destabilize the region." The complicit US corporate media echo this venom as often as the Washington lunatics ask them to. And there's lots more of it including a recent US Army report that calls Hugo Chavez "the largest threat since the Soviet Union and Communism", and Don Rumsfeld compares him to Hitler.

And in case you missed it, I'll repeat what John Pilger (one of my great heros) wrote today in VHeadline.com: "British Channel 4 paints President Chavez a Dictator -- Hugo to go?" <http://www.vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=52184>  

I watched that ugly and appalling piece of rot on March 27, painful as it was to do it. In his article Pilger says "This was a piece seemingly written by the US State Department..."

It sure sounded like it, and I've heard enough of it through the years to agree.

Here's a choice line from it Pilger quotes: "He (Chavez) is in danger of joining a rogue's gallery of dictators and despots -- Washington's latest Latin nightmare." There's so much more of the worst kinds of gross lies and deception in the Channel 4 report, but you get the idea. Read the Pilger article if you haven't yet.

Unlike myself, a simple amateur, he's a pro's pro, an honest one, and as good as they come.

All of what I cite above are the clearest signals yet something is up and will happen - the only question is when and precisely what. I only hope but do believe Hugo Chavez is listening and hunkering down for "the inevitable."

IN AN ORWELLIAN WORLD THE ONLY TRUTHS ARE THE LIES WE SAY ARE TRUTHS

It makes no difference to the Washington crowd that Hugo Chavez was democratically elected (several times), is loved by the overwhelming majority of his people and has already survived three attempts by the US to oust him. Coming up for sure is number four.

Chavez surely knows this and also believes (as do I) that this time the US plan is to kill him. In US perverted logic, they believe -- no more Hugo Chavez, no more Bolivarian revolution.

Well, President Chavez may have a thing or two to say about the first premise, and the Venezuelan people may have a thought or two about the second, at least the 80% of them who cherish it and will likely fight to keep it.

• Readers should understand and never forget that Hugo Chavez gave the people of Venezuela a participatory democracy and an array of essential social programs for everyone, especially the 80% or more poor or desperately poor who never before had them.

That's why the majority of Venezuelans love him, will likely fight to protect and keep him, and will never easily surrender the essential services they now have.

That's also why the US hates him and will try to remove him. By US rules it's corporations first, second, third, and to hell with the people. We're doing the same thing here in the US so why would we ever care about those dark-skinned Venezuelans -- except the rich ones, of course. With them the only color that counts is green.

For the ordinary people everywhere, the virulent undercurrent of racism always surfaces as a key factor in the target countries we choose. Since the beginning of the republic, race hate has been so much a part of our white leaders' DNA that even caucasian Arab people aren't white enough. And the only post-WWII war we've fought that's an exception was the illegal aggression against and breakup of Yugoslavia.

In that case, strategic factors outweighed race. The exception, as they say, proves the rule.

THE US ROAD TO TYRANNY LEADS THROUGH AFGHANISTAN, IRAQ, IRAN AND VENEZUELA

I've written several times before that the George Bush junta today is taking the US from a republic to tyranny, and we're already perilously close. This is a man who believes he's "above the law" and the "Constitution is just a goddamed piece of paper."

• I say this in deadly seriousness, this is not a test, it's real and it's coming unless we find a way and soon to stop it.

IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION?

All my senses detect it enough to make my skin crawl, and I'm desperately trying to sound the alarm to all I can reach including Hugo Chavez who I respect, admire and can only wish we had someone like him here. We need a lot of Hugo Chavezes and a few more Paul Reveres to echo the alarm, but this time it's not a case of "one if by land and two if by sea."

It's coming at us from all directions, and it may be armed with a nuclear warhead abroad and the end of our republic and sacred constitutional rights here with martial law and tyranny replacing them. It's that serious.

CHERTOFF'S SECRET ELECTRONIC CONTROL NET

According to the Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, a vast electronic control net covering the US is nearly completed. It's called the 'Homeland Security Information Network' (HSIN) and, says Chertoff: "now includes 50 states, five territories, 53 major urban areas, local officials and officials from Britain, Canada and Australia. It connects Homeland Security advisors, governor's offices, and emergency management agencies all across the country.''

FPF - Washington - March 15th - 2006 - It was last January when famous singer Harry Belafonte - one of the PG's and front man Bush's harshest critics - compared the Homeland Security Department to the Nazi Gestapo* and correctly called the US 'president' a liar and the 'Biggest Terrorist in the World': "We've come to this dark time in which the new Gestapo of Homeland Security lurks here, where citizens are having their rights suspended," Belafonte said in his speech to the annual meeting of the Arts Presenters Members Conference.

"You can be arrested and not charged. You can be arrested and have no right to counsel." - Belafonte's remarks and his sharp criticism were greeted with a roaring standing ovation from an audience which included many celebrities, members of the arts community and from several dozen countries all over the world.

CHERTOFF'S 'CONTROL STRUCTURE'

But for Chertoff - one of the main protectors of the 'PNAC Group' (PG) - his secret police 'control structure' and alarming speech at the U.S. Department of Justice, the 'Search Symposium on Justice and Public Safety Information Sharing' - yesterday in Washington DC - there was no ovation, but again this deafening silence in the mainstream propaganda channels the PG 'runs'.

Chertoff started of by telling about how he managed to make the PG replace the mafia in New York and surroundings:" When I joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan under Rudy Giuliani in 1983, organized crime really dominated - not only the City of New York, but many of the major cities in the east and Chicago. And they had a grip on the construction industry, the trucking industry, labor unions, a whole host of vital economic organs in our country."

What at that time worked for 'the Mob', now is enlarged and enforced to keep the Americans and many others just as another 'mob' under control. It's not only a fascist Patriot Act: malignant master Chertoff's ''Homeland Security Information Network'' - with it's electronic surveillance of all and everybody - is at work now he confirmed: "The same is done now. And in fact, it was cooperation and collaboration, information sharing that was a major part of what allowed us to turn that around and really strike devastating blows against organized crime."

Now the PG, other neocons and collaborators have to be defended by Chertoff and his Gestapo 'spooks' and troops against the - not only in the US - but globally growing anger of the victims, which they now see as 'the mob'. That's why all resistance is now called 'organized crime'. Concerning the control plans Chertoff said: ''So I thought that I would spend a little bit of time today talking to you about is how we use and share information and intelligence at DHS to achieve our all-hazards mission, and to support our state and local partners and the law enforcement community in what they do."

9/11? - TERRORISTS DON' FLY BOMBERS

Because as Chertoff later on pointed out, law enforcement and others are all in the spy net together: the PNAC junta's repressive control covers all and everything. To many observers and without maybe even knowing it - Chertoff indicated that the drama of 9/11* - the killing of around 3000 people in the WTC inferno - was an inside job* by the PG racket: "because terrorists are going to bring bombs and weapons, and not by flying bombers or coming in in Naval vessels, but by sneaking in, under cover of our ordinary civilian life.''

ORWELL: RESISTANCE IS THE ENEMY

Speaking about the legitimate resistance against the genocidal PNAC policy as: 'actions by the enemy' - Chertoff offered the solution to keep disturbing dissidents at bay: "Properly used and properly shared, intelligence gives us the ability to anticipate what the enemy is going to do. And if we anticipate it, we can intercept it. It also means we can protect ourselves with less inconvenience to our ordinary day to day activities, our freedoms, our prosperity."

ONE HAS TO KEEP IN MIND THAT CHERTOFF SPEAKS FOR THE 'PNAC GROUP' AND ALL IT'S VILE COLLABORATORS.

He's NOT speaking about defending the constitutional rights of the people that pay him and his ilk: "So, intelligence is a tool that not only pays off in terms of better security, but actually enhances our civil liberties and our economic prosperity." he said. Who's 'security'? Who's 'liberties'? Who's 'prosperity'?

CHERTOFF: ''INTELLIGENCE, AS YOU KNOW, IS NOT ONLY ABOUT SPIES AND SATELLITES.''

How far the Homeland Security control system infiltrates, and the ways in which the 'sheeple' and dissidents daily are 'managed', was described by Chertoff too: "Intelligence is about the thousands and thousands of routine, everyday observations and activities. Surveillances, interactions - each of which may be taken in isolation as not a particularly meaningful piece of information, but when fused together, gives us a sense of the patterns and the flow that really is at the core of what intelligence analysis is really about.

We have many interactions every day, every hour, at the border, on airplanes, with the Coast Guard. And what we need to do is to vacuum all those up and get them fused and analyzed so we can not only take appropriate action ourselves, but so we can share it with our state and local partners." - The Amazing Spider-Man Chertoff is everywhere with his web, or as the Nazis phrased it: Achtung! Der Feind hört mit! - Beware! The enemy is listening!

ALREADY DEPLOYING PERSONNEL TO MAJOR URBAN AREAS

Chertoff: "Because, again, the name of the game is, there is much collection activity out there, even at the squad car level, that we need to make sure we are constantly pulling it together in a way that allows us to exchange that information. So we are very interested now in pursuing this issue of fusion centers with you. DHS is already deploying personnel to major urban areas in New York and Los Angeles, so we actually embed people in the operations and fusion centers in those cities.

SO WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IS EXPLOIT MODERN COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY AND CREATE A VIRTUAL NETWORK, THAT CREATES THE ABILITY FOR ALL OF US TO OPERATE AS IF WE WERE IN THE SAME ROOM, WITH A COMMON OPERATING PICTURE." [ ]

AS THE SECRETARY OF HOMELAND SECURITY SAID: A VIRTUAL NETWORK': THE SPY WEB OVER ALL OF US IN THE PNAC STATES.

On how to further defend the PG's interests and those profiting from the present inhumane and global situation, this statement by Chertoff is clear enough: "There are now tens of thousands of users with access to a host of information, real-time thread information about counterterrorism and intelligence-focused activities; law enforcement data and analysis; critical infrastructure information, including private sector participation; cyber security incident reporting; and, through our now secret pathway, HSIN-Secret, which allows the sharing of secret information in an environment in which those who are properly cleared and look across the whole range of classified information that is relevant to their jobs.

WE ARE GOING TO STRENGTHEN THE SECRET ELEMENT OF HSIN THROUGH HSDN, WHICH IS YET ANOTHER PATHWAY FOR DATA EXCHANGE, BOTH UNCLASSIFIED AND CLASSIFIED."

As far as is known NONE of the people taking part in this Washington 'Symposium on Justice and Public Safety Information Sharing' reacted other than positive when Chertoff finished his PNAC defense and further electronic spy planning with: "I look forward to working with you in this common effort. I can tell you my team is committed to doing that, and I think together we will continue to build on the promise of so many past great accomplishments* in facing the challenges of this next new century."

Attacks on judiciary predicate ‘dictatorship.’

 

Sandra Day O'Connor, a Republican-appointed judge who retired last month after 24 years on the supreme court, has said the US is in danger of edging towards dictatorship if the party's rightwingers continue to attack the judiciary.

In a strongly worded speech at Georgetown University, reported by National Public Radio and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Ms O'Connor took aim at Republican leaders whose repeated denunciations of the courts for alleged liberal bias could, she said, be contributing to a climate of violence against judges.

LAPHAM COMMENTING ON REP. CONYER’S EFFORT.

A reason with which it was hard to argue but one that didn't account for the congressman's impatience. Why not wait for a showing of supportive public opinion, delay the motion to impeach until after next November's elections? Assuming that further investigation of the President's addiction to the uses of domestic espionage finds him nullifying the Fourth Amendment rights of a large number of his fellow Americans, the Democrats possibly could come up with enough votes, their own and a quorum of disenchanted Republicans, to send the man home to Texas. Conyers said:

“I don't think enough people know how much damage this administration can do to their civil liberties in a very short time. What would you have me do? Grumble and complain? Make cynical jokes? Throw up my hands and say that under the circumstances nothing can be done? At least I can muster the facts, establish a record, tell the story that ought to be front-page news.”

Which turned out to be the purpose of his House Resolution 635—not a high-minded tilting at windmills but the production of a report, 182 pages, 1,022 footnotes, assembled by Conyers's staff during the six months prior to its presentation to Congress, that describes the Bush Administration's invasion of Iraq as the perpetration of a crime against the American people. It is a fair description.

Defense Secretary Cheney first used depleted uranium munitions in the 1991 Gulf War. Result? Almost 2/3rds of the vets are sick. Will this happen to the troops returning from Afghanistan and Iraq? Read on and judge for yourself.

Did you read the story about 1st Lt. William “Eddie'' Rebrook IV whose arm was shattered and artery severed by a roadside bomb in Iraq? The Army discharged him because of his injuries. But the Pentagon refused to allow him to go home until he paid $700 for his blood-soaked body armor discarded on the battlefield by the evacuating medics.

The Charleston Gazette quoted his mother as saying, “It’s outrageous, ridiculous and unconscionable. I wanted to stand on a street corner and yell through a megaphone about this.''

That's how I feel after researching this series about Dick Cheney, deadly depleted uranium, and its effects on our troops. In 1991, then Secretary of Defense Cheney authorized the first massive use of depleted uranium munitions by our forces. As a consequence the lives of almost 2/3rds of the men and women who served in the Gulf War have been destroyed. Their families have been ripped apart, and their children are being born with tragic deformities. Does the same fate await most of the one million troops who served in Afghanistan and Iraq? INSPIRING STORY OF MAJOR MATT TULLY

This series was inspired by National Guard Major Matt Tully, a local attorney, whom I've never met but deeply respect. On 9/11, he was working as a brokerage firm paralegal in the World Trade Center and was almost killed. He changed into uniform and served for three days as the No. 2 National Guardsman providing security for the crash site. He subsequently returned to law school and set up practice in our area of central New York.

Despite the post 9/11 anti-Arab hysteria, Tully defended Joe Mansour, a Lebanese American working in a federal prison. Mansour began receiving derogatory e-mails and death threats after 9/11. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee awarded Matt Tully its 2005 Pro-Bono Attorney of the Year. Tully also spoke out against the looming war in Iraq that the Bush Administration was hyping on a false connection between 9/11 and the government of Iraq.*

Matt Tully is an active member of the American Bar Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Association, Reserve Officers Association, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Given Tully's 9/11* experience, pro bono work, and earlier opposition to the war, I was troubled to read last year that Tully had been called to duty in Iraq. Tully was quoted as saying, "I was very vocal in my opposition to the war in Iraq," and adding that he believed President Bush's policy of pre-emptive strikes to be un-American and that the United States should not invade another country unless it commits an act of war upon America.

Unlike the young draftees of the Vietnam War era, 40% of those serving in Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld's war are National Guard, and Army Reserves. They’re our neighbors. They leave behind families, mortgage payments, and vital jobs serving our community.

IRAQ AND NAZI WAR CRIMINALS

As a former professor of political science I completely agreed with Tully on the illegality of a war of aggression against a country that posed no threat to the United States. I cannot imagine a lawyer and member of the American Bar Association taking any other position. After all, American jurists played a key role in the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals that began in October 1945. The German defendants were charged not only with the systematic murder of millions of people, but also with planning and carrying out the war in Europe. The court sentenced twelve Nazi officials to be hanged, three to life in prison, and four to serve prison sentences of 10-20 years.

The Nuremberg Tribunal prompted subsequent expansion of international law that condemns the waging of aggressive war as the "supreme" war crime that inevitably leads to crimes such as the slaughter of civilians and mistreatment and torture of prisoners.

Mr. Tully's opposition to the war also struck a personal chord. I was a draft counselor during the Vietnam War. Like Mr. Tully's legal position against the Iraq War, my opposition to the Vietnam War was not only moral. It was political. As a high school teacher at the time, I had studied the disastrous Japanese and later French colonial wars against the Vietnamese.

I knew that the American war against a popular guerrilla resistance was not winnable. It would turn out to be a meat grinder for America's youth and all Vietnamese. And it would waste billions of dollars needed at home for education, health care, and eradicating poverty.

For years after the war ended, men would approach me on the street to thank me for saving their lives, and, equally important, for empowering them to refuse to serve in a war of aggression against a people who posed to no threat to the United States.

I agonized over Major Tully's particular dilemma when his National Guard division was called. Unlike the individual civilians I counseled in the 1960s, Tully was a commissioned officer with loyalty to his unit, the famous Rainbow Division of the New York State National Guard.

NEW YORKERS IN SADDAM HUSSEIN'S HOME TOWN

The heroic life of a man I didn't know prompted me to set aside a few days a week from the comic novel, We're Not In Kansas Anymore! I've almost finished about Pat Robertson-type Christianity. I wanted to learn about the men and women of the Rainbow Division stationed in Forward Operating Base Camp Danger in Saddam Hussein's former palace in Tikrit on the desert banks of the Tigris River.

I was in the middle of drafting my first piece on the Rainbow Division when I watched George W. Bush's October 13, 2005 choreographed teleconference on the eve of Iraq's constitutional referendum. The Camp Danger base commander had ordered ten of his soldiers to feed the president and the American citizens a fairy tale scripted by chickenhawk Republican operatives in Washington.

I knew that the words the troops had been ordered to mouth on camera were misleading, false, and designed to present a rosy picture of the rapidly deteriorating military and political situation in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

As an informed citizen I was outraged. So I changed the focus of my piece to contrast the fictional script concocted by Bush's stateside propagandists with the facts on the ground, including quotations on the growing resistance to the occupation by the base commander Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Taluto.

The Rainbow Division Guardsmen have now served the first of three possible six-month tours of duty. Most, including Matt Tully, have arrived home safely. When the local paper reported his return last month, I was in for a second shock.

On his way home, Tully had been co-opted into a meeting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.

I had been researching Gulf War Illness for a decade so I knew about Cheney's responsibility for the greatest tragedy to strike the United States military since the Civil War. I knew that depleted uranium contamination was the wild card in every returning vet's deck, one that Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the Pentagon don’t want them or us to know about.

IRAQ VETS IN DANGER? DO THE MATH.

Depleted uranium is deadly. 697,00 men and women served in the 1991 Operation Desert Storm. The Gulf War on the ground lasted only 100 hours. Few troops spent more than three months near the battle zone during and after the war.

Nevertheless 518,000 Gulf War era vets are now receiving medical disability according government figures. That's more than 70% of all Army, Navy and Air Force veterans, even though not all the disabled served in the Middle East. For purposes of comparison, many more years after the wars in which they served, the disabled from World War II total 8.6%; 5% from the Korean War, and 9.6% from the Vietnam War.

DEPLETED URANIUM, TIME-RELEASE POISON

More than 320 tons of depleted uranium munitions were used in the Gulf War. Ten times that tonnage has so far been used in Afghanistan and Iraq. Depleted uranium has a half-life of 4.5 billion years. Some of the radioactive particles are as small as bacteria. They cannot be filtered so they permeate the air, water, soil, vegetation, and animal life. Our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are inhaling and ingesting them every day. They accumulate throughout the body like time-release poison, so the symptoms often develop years later.

The substance is so deadly that, before the war, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Erik K. Shenseki ordered the posting of elaborate regulations for handling contaminated clothing, munitions, and equipment. But how many active duty soldiers or vets reading this have even heard of those regulations?

320 tons in a 100-day war in 1991 produced almost a 2/3rds casualty rate. Since 2003, more than 3000 tons have been used in this current war without end. The typical tour of duty in the present conflict is six months. Many regular, National Guard and Reserve troops are serving second and third tours.

What percentage of the million troops who've served will eventually be stricken? You do the math. Iraq War vets are already getting sick, dying, and producing children with horrible birth deformities.

CHENEY PREPARING TO NUKE OUR OWN TROOPS

The Iraq War is Cheney's war. He was the point man fabricating the string of lies that persuaded Congress and the American people to support the unprovoked war on Iraq. Even though he knew all his "intelligence" was phony, he created and perpetuated the lie that linked Saddam Hussein to the 9/11 attack in order to manipulate our patriotism and mislead our troops.

Cheney is also the driving force behind an unprovoked nuclear attack against Iran that, according to all intelligence estimates, is years away from developing a nuclear weapon and is abiding by international law. We now face the frightening prospect of a nuclear attack on Iran that will send a radioactive cloud over the Middle East.

This will doubly contaminate the 136,000 American serving in the area as well as those who will have to be deployed when all hell breaks loose after the attack on a third Muslim country.

HOW TROOPS CAN PROTECT THEMSELVES.

HOW WE CAN PROTECT AMERICA.

Depleted uranium contaminates the air, soil, and water so that the men and women of the Rainbow Division took radioactive showers during their six months in Camp Forward Danger, but never knew it. D.U. attacks the body and the symptoms are diverse. There is no treatment and no cure. However, there are practical tips that troops can take in the field to avoid some of the exposure, and there are some do's and don't's to lessen contaminating their homes when they return.

KATRINA: WHY AREN¹T WE TALKING ABOUT CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE?

It is clear now that Michael Chertoff and George Bush can be directly implicated in the deaths of the 1,300 Americans who died in Hurricane Katrina. The newly released video from the Associated Press proves beyond a reasonable doubt that they were adequately warned of the gravity of the approaching storm and the risks it posed to people of New Orleans. The only question now is whether the charges should be criminal negligence or manslaughter. We leave that to the attorneys.

AS THE VIDEO SHOWS ( http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article12132.htm ) both Bush and his Homeland Security chief were told by federal disaster officials in unambiguous language "that the storm could breach levees and overwhelm rescuers".

WHAT COULD BE CLEARER THAN THAT?

Bush's comments three days later that, "I don¹t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees", was obviously meant to mislead the public and redirect the blame away from himself.

For some unknown reason, Bush and his lieutenants ignored the warnings of the Hurricane experts and stubbornly refused to take timely action that would have saved lives. Even when Chertoff was notified that the levees had been breached, he failed to respond until hours later.

WHY?

AFTER ALL, AS ONE OFFICIAL NOTED, "IT WAS NOT ONLY PREDICTABLE; IT WAS PREDICTED."

INDEED, IT WAS. BUT BUSH AND COMPANY OBVIOUSLY HAD DIFFERENT PLANS IN MIND.

What those plans were; no one knows, but that doesn't minimize the scale of the disaster or keep us from assigning blame. The video proves that both Bush and Chertoff are guilty of dereliction of duty and, very possibly, manslaughter.

THE QUESTION NOW IS ONE OF "INTENTIONALITY", NOT "CULPABILITY."

The media has played a crucial role in blocking attempts for an independent investigation and for absolving Bush of guilt. From the beginning, they singed-out ex-FEMA-chief Michael Brown as the scapegoat for the obvious failures of the administration. We know now that "Brownie" was perhaps the only high-ranking official who acted responsibly and tried to protect the public from harm. Brown repeatedly warned of the potential dangers of Katrina but no one paid attention. On the video he is heard saying, "My gut tells me that this is a bad one and a big one. To put it mildly, this is the big one."

Brown cautioned that the Superdome was 12 ft below sea-level and could be swamped if the levees broke. He later alerted Homeland Security that, "They're not taking patients out of the hospitals, taking prisoners out of the prisons, and they're leaving hotels open in downtown New Orleans. So, I'm very concerned about that. I'm concerned about the medical and mortuary resources and their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe."

He also added later, "I want to jam up supply-lines. I want to cut the bureaucratic red-tape. I want it, balls-to-the-wall, in doing everything we could."

BROWN WAS OBVIOUSLY DOING THE BEST HE COULD UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

Unfortunately, his efforts were rewarded by a “swift-boat” media-campaign that portrayed him as a clownish-bungler who botched the relief-effort from start to finish. The media deftly shifted the blame from the White House (where it belonged) to a bit-player in the government bureaucracy who was only trying to save lives. The AP video shows where the guilt really lies.

There's no evidence that anyone else in the administration was particularly worried by the tragedy or the loss of life. Three days passed before troops were deployed to the region and the relief-effort was hampered at every turn by federal agents.

As more and more incriminating evidence has surfaced, the recalcitrant media has stuck to its narrative of a "blundering bureaucracy" unable to deal with a massive natural disaster like Katrina. All of the 2,200 articles which first appeared about the storm invoked the very same phraseology.

BUSH: "I DON'T THINK ANYBODY ANTICIPATED THE BREACH OF THE LEVEES"

According to the MSM, Katrina showed a “failure of imagination” or, Homeland Security was “slow to react” or, Chertoff was in “a fog of war” or, (Bush’s much repeated) "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees".

These carefully-worded phrases have built a protective wall around Bush and Chertoff; shielding them from direct involvement in the deaths of 1,300 Americans and 2,300 missing.

We may not know what Bush or Chertoff had in mind when they refused to carry out their duties, but we do know that it was not the result of a "bungling bureaucracy." That's just baloney.

The “buck-passing” media is trying to deflect blame and hoodwink the public, but the charges remain the same; criminal negligence or manslaughter.
