Tim Carpenter: "Brownback's pick for SRS chief touts faith-based options" @ Topeka Capital Journal

TELL KANSAS NEWS MEDIA TO CALL NOMINEE SIEDLECKI'S EX-WIFE TO APPEAR AT HIS KANSAS SENATE CONFIRMATION HEARINGS

Gov. Sam Brownback makes no secret of his appreciation for the power of proselytizing voices in the public square. He nominated Siedlecki to be secretary of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services because the former Bush administration attorney is well-versed in legalities of funneling tax dollars to organizations combining treatment of vulnerable Kansans with Bible study.

For Siedlecki, the issue runs deeper. He is divorced and lives far from two daughters in New York state. Breathing life into a system capable of shielding Kansas families from heartache is a worthy objective.

"I would have stayed married forever. It was the darkest part of my life," he said in an interview. "Every father should be a dad. Child support is not enough."
